This still doesn't explain why Britney's Oh La La effortlessly peaked  44 spots higher on the hot 100 and she wasn't even in the movie

I don't think anyone's denying it's a commercial failure. But a lot of people are taking this album out of context. This isn't Beyoncé's solo album. It's way too soon to start calling her a flop or whatever. Her last album was the best-selling album in the world :flop: This is a side project. And it should be judged as a side project, just like no one expected TIHTY to slay the charts like Shallow did.

HAHAHA TIHTY is from a documentary about the incidence of sexual assault on college campuses and it made only 400k at the box office. Spirit is from a big movie for all ages that made almost 1 BILLION at the WW box office. Weird comparison. Spirit is a flop and the fact that it won't outview TIHTY... :laughga:

Finally a time of my life where Beyoncé is not overrated. but tbh I feel bad for her, at least with this song, it is not that bad to get this chart performance... I mean it is not a Nicki Minaj song

Maybe the problem was that people just wanted to listen to the old 90s Lion King songs since they were featured EXACTLY THE SAME in this pointless remake

I've got the perfect comeback for anyone claiming that Spirit flopped because Beyonce barely got any lines in the movie, didn't promote the song and nobody wanted to buy songs from a kid's movie...Pharrell Williams. He was the composer for the Despicable Me films, he never acted in any of them, just composed. He had the biggest hit of his career, Happy, off the back of a song in a kid's movie that he didn't even act in. It went #1 in the US, broke records, has sold over 6.9 million there to date and sold well over 13 million worldwide to date. Justin Timberlake also had huge success with Can't Stop The Feeling! from kid's movie Trolls, which did nowhere near as good as TLK and has been forgotten about now. Britney even got a higher peak with Ooh La La from the Smurfs movie that she wasn't even in and didn't promote. So, any claims that it being a kid's movie and therefore won't be a hit is thrown out the window at this point. If anything, a song in a kid's movie heightens its chances of success as kids tend to demand their parents buy something they like. And they've made songs from much lesser successful movies popular. This movie has grossed just under $1 billion worldwide and its only been out for little over a week. Spirit actually features in the movie, not even the credits (I haven't seen it, so I just have to take Hans Zimmer's word for this, according to Wikipedia). To have it make basically no impact (Brown Skin Girl is actually performing better even though it's from the soundtrack that nobody cares about) is shocking.

If you wanna prove that critics praise her automatically you need to point to critics scores, year-end lists of music publications, etc. etc. Not point to the least credible awards to back up your point :sharon:

I respect your opinion, obviously. But saying critics overrate her is a debatable factual claim and I've perfectly laid out why it's not objective.

Beyonce has never had a genuinely low album score in her life. Yes, her earlier albums were not as high as they are now but she was never slammed like Marina's Electra Heart (57 on Metacritic), Ed's No.6 Collaborations Project (57), JT's Man of the Woods (55), Britney's Britney Jean (50) or Katy Perry's Teenage Dream (47) which is what her fans seem to be implying. I'd consider scores of anything below 60 to be a disappointment and Beyonce's lowest is 62, so she's not getting my sympathy.

Here's a run-down of the critical achievements you're looking for...

Dangerously In Love - 63 on Metacritic, ranked #183 on the 200 Definitive Albums that shaped Rock and Roll by the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame

B'Day - 70 on Metacritic

I Am...Sasha Fierce, 62 on Metacritic

4 - 73 on Metacritic, was on a lot of critics best album of the year lists

Beyonce - 85 on Metacritic, put into the 2016 update of the publication 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, was cited as the album that invented suprise releases and made them popular

Lemonade - 92 on Metacritic, was on the best albums list of every major critic, won a Peabody award

Everything Is Love - 80 on Metacritic, appeared on the best list of most music publications

The Lion King: The Gift - 77 on Metacritic

She's always had decent reviews and has been getting really good ones since 2011. I've always seen her as a critical darling and she's never been hated on en masse. Compare this to Gaga who critics seemed to make a pact to collectively slam for 5 solid years until it became fashionable to like her again (like the sheep they are) and Beyonce has had an easy ride.
