People aren't necessary buying soundtrack for feeling connection with a character, it's that the movie itself is a gigantic promo tool that guarantees some level of success.

But the official movie soundtrack is bombing too :oprah: So apparently that's not true. (The problem is obviously that these Disney remakes already have iconic soundtracks and no one is bothered about buying new versions that aren't as good.)

not really when Bey is a lioness...

she's just a voice actor

Come on man, let's stop excusing her not doing well. The movie has been #1 for two weekends now, her name alone attached to the movie's name should have propelled the album to #1 on BB 200 and make sure the song does good. But I think more people are actually buying the original 94 soundtrack because those songs are classics and no one is interested in reimagining especially if it's not done right. Let's be honest did we expect music influenced by africa? Yes, did we get it? No. The album was a misstep let's not pretend it wasn't. It just isn't that good.

The difference is that the official soundtrack is not original music.. For me people that are too focused in searching for excuses are giving me the impression that they are biased. For example, even for Witness we can analyse it in the context of Katy's popularity and that moment and say that was justified but it just comes off as biased. Of course, every flop (and similarly every hit) is backed by reasons and circumstances but everybody has to accepted that this is a commercial failure.

Couldn't disagree more. How is it that influenced by Africa? :air: How is it not good? :oprah: The critics and fans are eating it up. Like, ok, you don't like it but that doesn't mean the album is or should generally be perceived to be a misstep :messga:

Feels like a boycott.

But, see, that's just working with two logics :oprah: It doesn't matter what the product is: the majority of GGD members are claiming that everything related to The Lion King must automatically slay and then they come up with these weird excuses about the movie's soundtrack bombing :emma:

Clearly it doesn't work that way. People wanna see the movie and then tap out. It's logical. It explains why the soundtrack is bombing as well as why Beyoncé is bombing. People just aren't here for it. They care about The Lion King but not that much that they want to hear an entire album influenced by the movie, not even by Beyoncé. I don't see how that's an excuse. It's the only reasonable explanation when you look at the record-breaking smash success of the movie itself.

I don't think anyone's denying it's a commercial failure. But a lot of people are taking this album out of context. This isn't Beyoncé's solo album. It's way too soon to start calling her a flop or whatever. Her last album was the best-selling album in the world :flop: This is a side project. And it should be judged as a side project, just like no one expected TIHTY to slay the charts like Shallow did.

That’s a terrible result for a song with all that exposure and free promo.  When was Queen Bey’s last hit single?

I said it's not influenced by Africa and that it was expected. When it was announced everybody thought we'd get something like Black Panther album. The critics always eat up anything Bey does, and I say this as a fan I have all her albums but ever since EIL I ain't feeling it. This LK album is boring from start to Spirit :huntyga:

As a fan you should know that's not true though... Bey wasn't even nominated for one big award for Dreamgirls, her Sasha album was a critical disaster and she only got serious acclaim for her albums since 2013... :air: So that's flat out wrong.

You're obviously free to dislike the album. But know that your opinion is in the minority :whitney:
