MTV is toying with the idea of removing Michael Jackson's name from their Video Vanguard Award for this year's Video Music Awards.

During a conversation with Page Six, a source disclosed that there are talks within MTV about renaming the award.

"There’s a lot of heated discussion at the network about how to handle the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award this year, and it’s getting ugly," the source claims. "There’s talk about if they should change the name, or get rid of it altogether. [There’s also talk] about who would present it and who would accept it. It’s a mess."

Why don’t they just merge with kids choice awards because that seems to be what it’s turning into anyways

MTV should be working on bringing music programming back to their network and fix the relevancy of the VMA's.

But whatever I guess.

It's not like they've used his name in association with the award for years now.

It's not like they didn't bully  and humiliate him back in 2002 by giving him a fake award. Then proceeded to kiss his ass the moment he died.

MTV can rot and choke for all I care. He gave them so much, and opened the doors for so many black artists videos to be played. It would be disgraceful for them to remove the name on the back of that sham of a "documentary" aired earlier this year.

"Get rid of it altogether?"

Well, that would def mean Gaga isn't going this year, unless she decided to do promo there (which seems unlikely)

I have no opinion on this but honestly, the VMAs are dying. The late 2000s and early 2010s was the best year for it and now it sucks. :reductive:

Of course MTV has to do such a dumb thing, it just reflects the total dereliction this irrelevant media has sunk into. At least have some respect for the artist, he is dead ffs.:triggered:

Pet peeve of mine, it wasn't named for him originally, and in fact several won it before him... and deservedly so. So for me, it's overdue. Sorry MJ fans.

MTV was a thing when Michael Jackson was a thing.
