The South didn't wake up. That's a fact, so stop repeating it.

The other areas you mentioned that are in swing states were swayed by Trump... they are after all, SWING STATES. The possibility of them swinging back sometime in the future is certain.

Many rural areas have voted Republican consistently for decades and large cities Democrat for decades. There is no waking up. There is nothing extraordinary happening.

I do agree Democrats need to do better to win again, but your statements just sound like some talking points you read online and are just running with them with no real knowledge.

These all look pretty similar except for 2004 where the Iraq war was a factor. Nothing extraordinary has occurred this century in the US.

In fact, Trump didn't even win the popular vote. He was the unpopular candidate.

Actually, Obama's 2008 victory a bit extraordinary in the sense of how he won by 10M votes. But the support was similar in the areas as it has been for the past 30 years or so.

I say waking up because there have been plenty of bad Republicans who only cared about their own prestige (both Bush’s, obviously). Trump is actually a doer, not a sweet talker. And smart people understand that sweet talk is almost always used to cover up lies. Those who live in self-referential media bubbles (stinky California, plastic NYC, wartorn Chicagoland etc) seem to judge leaders purely on looks, how they sound, or how they make us feel. So very Hollywood! Normal people know to judge others ONLY by their actions.

Oh and something extraordinary did happen in the US this century: Trump! That and also a big migration OUT of the broken dreams of California to the South. I can honestly see California’s population falling a lot. New York has been declining for ages. No wonder Dems want to bring in more illegal immigrants!

The South left the Democrats when they decided not to support racism anymore. The year they added ending racial discrimination to the national party platform, the South voted against them for the first time ever.

Republicans obviously took advantage of this and started appealing to the Southern confederate sympathizers and racists.

It's a good thing Dems don't represent the South anymore. At least not the racist South.

This is false: most blacks live in the South so why would the Republicans appeal to “Southern racists” when these same states also have the most blacks? Unless you’re claiming that all Southern Republicans are racist?

Even more unusual to think someone isn’t reading that site, doesn’t live in the US, and is spewing these talking points.

The Southern Strategy is real.

At this point you are either trolling or just have no idea what you are talking about.

The most blacks? :toofunny:

Honey, let's not act like they're not still white majority states. The reason there are still many blacks there is because they were formerly slaves and are too poor to move away + have established their own culture. Don't act like you don't know it.

The South has always been divided and yes, it is the most racist even though there's a large black population. The black population has voted overwhelmingly Democratic since the 1960s and there's a reason for that (support of civil rights).

Southern Republicans may not all be racist but they sure do excuse racism and let it slide. The South's main political position has been opposition to intervention by the federal government (somehow always on race issues like slavery or civil rights) for such a long time in history.

Gurl all states are white majority. And the South isn’t the only place where you’ll find racist whites. Plenty in Democrat (aka crime) territory. And black culture is Southern culture. Rock, jazz all started in the south among the rural black communities. The big media cities just got rich stealing rural black Southern culture and making it famous. Fair enough, but now these same big media cities are trying to shame the South for lacking something???

True, but you'll find the majority of racist whites in the South. :lolga: Votes and platforms don't lie.

You salty black people and their music made it big nationally instead of getting stuck in hillbilly rural areas and country music (white southern music) has been doing awfully? :ohwell:

Please learn to separate two components of a place from the place itself. Criticisms of the South's politics aren't attacking the South as a whole. They're attacking the South's politics.

The issue isn't shaming the South. It's shaming the racists found in the South (who happen to be much, much more common than in "big media cities").

OF COURSE there are racists in big cities and Democratic states. There's just much more in the rural South and they keep voting against Civil Rights. If it walks like a racist and quacks like a racist...

It's the racists that are gonna lose eventually because the country is slowly becoming more liberal, democratic, and atheist. Republicans have nothing but the unfair electoral college and gerrymandering system going for them to inflate their votes. We'll win regardless and we'll fix it. Republicans will be able to win with the evangelical and racist vote for only so long.

I have family in Texas! If you ever get sick of it I’m sure there’s a rat-infested garbage-covered property Democrat territory with your name on it!

The South is smarter than you realise. Love is stronger than fear, if you let it.
