The Guardian: "Beyonce's diet sells a damaging ideal"

Beyoncé’s 2018 Coachella headline set was a feat of meticulous preparation. She conceived a show that would pay tribute to the culture of historically black colleges and universities. Having just given birth to twins, she worked for months on the exacting choreography and arrangements.

Except that Beyoncé – along with an “exercise physiologist” and founding CEO of a “plant-based lifestyle solutions company” named Marco Borges – are now selling the diet she followed to prepare for her Coachella set. She has posted a video promoting the “Beyoncé’s Kitchen” meal plan to her YouTube channel. It opens with footage from day one of her Homecoming preparations, the sight of her feet on the scale, weight 79.3kgs (12st7lb). In voiceover, she admits: “Every woman’s nightmare … long way to go. Let’s get it.”

We see her dancing, doing battle ropes, sit-ups, intensive stretching and squatting in resistance bands. Borges tells her dancers about the power of vegetables. “When you’re eating plant-based, you will definitely have more energy.” He gets a FaceTime call from Beyoncé: “Guess who fits in the One Woman costume!” she says, twirling in a sequinned bodice that reveals her taut, hourglass figure. “Thank you. It’s a very big deal. She’s coming back. I’m coming back.”

For $14 a month, or $99 (£79) a year, all this can be yours. Except it can’t, because Beyoncé is selling a lie. The performance of physical perfection is part of her job, and she has an expensive team of trainers, chefs and nannies to help her achieve it that isn’t included in the subscription fee. This much we know. We also know that crash dieting seldom results in keeping weight off long-term, and that society’s insistence on new mums losing “post-baby” weight is nonsense. But when looking for any shred of information that might help one lose weight, reason is easily overruled.

I agree, but is it Beyonce who is selling this diet? Or is this Borges guy just using Beyonce's name to promote his own product?

Edit: Also I can't believe Bey weighed 170 lbs at one point and still looked so dang GOOD the whole time :saira: Like I literally have a fear of weighing that much. It's irrational but I do (and I'm sure other women including celebs do as well). This just shows that you can look glam and sex and goddess at almost any weight, it's all about getting the best beauty care and a tailor who makes your clothes fit perfectly

My old cat is a tough man, but i cant deny the way he bites my hand and he stabs me, he grabs me by my heart <3

As true as this is, this plan is simply to encourage people to try going vegan it’s pretty manageable:awkney: according to the site, it provides:

1)Continuous Support from Food Coaches

2)Life-Giving Recipes Added Daily

3) A Unique Plan for Your Life

4) Nutrition Info on Every Meal

5) Grocery Delivery in Select Areas

I don’t understand how this is “self damaging” it’s just trying to encourage people that a vegan lifestyle is manageable:laughga:

This is a tricky subject, celebs promoting diets. From that article alone it doesn’t seem like they’re promoting a healthier lifestyle, more like maintaining a certain body type.

I’ll keep looking for Wonderland

this is a mess tbh. it is SO dangerous to put people on generic diets, like seriously. How isn't this backfiring already? It's a health thing.

Cause people aren't dumb enough to think they're getting Beyonce's entire f*cking team for a $14 month meal plan. I don't see how this meal plan is any different than any of the thousands already offered.

Never saw the video. I don't believe that she actually weighed that much. She is only 169 cm.

I'm a male around her height and I feel very fat at around 72 kg. :triggered:

If you actually think you're getting Beyonce's personal trainer and chef's for $14, then I don't even feel bad for what may happen to you.  She's not even selling all that, just the food she ate.

But why did people complaining? She clearly only sharing her regime, not promoting it. And it was something that works for her cos she need to drop weight quickly and effectively for her upcoming show. Not for everyone. :oprah:

so beyonce isn't promoting this diet so it gets more sales, right? :ohwell:

And on the video she isn't selling the food like: looks this tomatoes are the best!!!

She is selling a 22 days plan to lose weight, and what she sells to achieve that is the food plan (and the sport she does) but diets need to be personalized to every person because it is dangerous for people who don't have her resources to start eating like that without control on their bodies, previous analysis, etc.

Plus, it is a scam, because you can eat like that for 22 days, lose some weight and then gain it x2 once you stop.

And yeah, people will buy it because it is beyonce selling it. And let's not start with: that's people's fault. She is the one promoting/selling it, and this is not an: "eat healthier with these tips book". I repeat: it's been sold like a 22 days plan.

This meal plan is not different, it is just as bad as all of them. And Beyonce is attached to it, so she is just as responsible as every brand that does this.

And with all of this we are not even taking into account the problem that is that someone on her level is trying to tell you that you need to be a certain weight. Because that would be another 5 paragraphs.
