why not new music or art instead of a commercial product? :oprah:

I think, to answer your question, Gaga probably just wanted to do something different... but something still in line with her brand and artistic vision. Makeup is still very artistic and very creative, whilst not being 'art' in itself. And of course, there is a commercial element to makeup - but ultimately, if Gaga wanted to do something to make lots of money, makeup would not be the easiest way for her to do that.

Makeup is a risky business - it's a hyper-critical industry and is extremely competitive. It's also an expensive business to run... and a business that Gaga herself does not have direct managerial experience in. Long-term success is not on lock-down.

I think your main point is that Gaga created HL, primarily, to capitalise on her brand, her message and her popularity. But it doesn't make sense for this idea to have been born out of a desire for more money. If Gaga created HL to become richer, then her advisors are financially illiterate. There is *no* guarantee that this will be successful.

The only venture that Gaga can guarantee profit from is a new album release. *If* she wanted to make a load more money (as a primary goal), it is obvious that all she has to do is release, promote and tour a 'classic' pop album again.

Clearly, HL has a financial goal (to justify investment, to employ people, to run the business) - but it cannot be the primary goal because, as I said, if Gaga / her team wanted money, they would not be focusing on a risky, money-eating start-up that, in the long-run, is unlikely to generate the same infinite profit generation that a Gaga pop album would achieve.

It is also worth noting that Gaga herself does not own HL. Whilst we have no knowledge of the company's shareholder agreements, I think it's quite likely that Gaga would take a higher percentage of her music royalties, than she will of makeup sales. So again, this can't be about money.

So, I think when you remove the idea that HL exists to make money, you (not you personally, but people in general) will realise that there is clearly a creative ambition and an artistic intention surrounding this venture. It is clearly a project that Gaga cares deeply about, and not something to get even richer from.

I mean, i don't really care about this, but aren't some of you putting too much thought into this? Some even defending it, or explaining how Gaga could make more money with something else or whatever (maybe she should contact you guys, so she can get richer?).

For me, this is just a celebrity trying to expend her brand/make more money. Perfumes, MakeUp, Clothing, everyone is doing it, so wayne :ohwell:

While it is a risk, there's huge money to be made from beauty products. As an industry it's almost at a trillion dollars. Gaga "only" made $39M from a huge box office hit, one of biggest albums of the year, Vegas residency, plus endorsement deals with two big brands (Tudor and Tiffany & Co)  ... While Kylie Jenner made $170M selling uninspiring lip kits.

I really appreciate that Gaga really seemed creatively  invested into this venture, and the message is great.

So I was just doing my after-work swipe of Insta stories and I saw 2 people disappointed in HausLabs. I mean it's not even out yet wtf.

Does it look bad or something? Genuine question I've no experience in make-up.
