Inferno 2,880 Posted July 15, 2019 Share Posted July 15, 2019 While prep is a great tool in alleviating paranoia/stigma I think its also kind of dangerous in the sense that it has propelled sex addiction and not just unsafe sexual practices but the commercialization of it for a brand new generation of kids. I think everyones putting way too much trust in this drug of which we have no idea the long term effects and what kind of other beasts will arise from the immense rise in unprotected sex/group sex etc. Not to mention how the irresponsible commercialization of barebacking affects those who don't have access to prep its like....all very worrisome to me and I think will cause problems in the future imo. Just waiting for the day where everyone gets slapped in the face with a reality check. Greater powers at be do not have the best interests of gay men or the lgbtqia+ community generally in mind. Someones profiting off gay mens sex addictions honestly and no one is bothering to think too deep or critical because they wanna get off. Some people may find this generalizing or offensive but on the greater whole honestly the way to target the gay male community is through our d*cks/holes. They know this and they dont give af whose health is compromised because theres big money in taking advantage of our sexual inclinations. Period. Im not claiming itll be to the same extent as the AIDS crisis but I do think its inarguable that people are putting so much blind faith in a drug that hadn't even been extensively researched. When I went on prep, I asked the doctor about the plausibility of people on prep getting hiv infections and spreading it eventually creating a strain of hiv thats harder to treat and her response was that its their hope that that doesn't happen but for now its fine. And considering peoples total abandon and irresponsibility thanks to prep, I personally believe its possible. Im not living in fear on the daily but it is something I ponder based upon the fact that gay men don't typically have people looking out for their best interest especially regarding sex.
