Luna Lovegood 24,372
“One by one, Netflix’s colossal competitors have woken up. They’re ending their contracts with Netflix, taking back control of their content, and launching their own streaming services that will compete with Netflix. This is happening right now. Have you heard about Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+? Launching later this year, it’ll be the new home of the world’s most popular movies. Although Disney is best known for Mickey Mouse, it owns the greatest portfolio of movies ever assembled. The 3 best-selling movies so far this year are Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel, and Aladdin. Disney owns all 3. The 3 best-selling movies of 2018 were Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Incredibles 2. Disney owns all 3. The 3 best-selling movies of 2017 were Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and Beauty and the Beast. Disney owns all 3. Except for the newest ones, all these wildly popular movies are currently on Netflix. By the end of this year, they’ll be removed from Netflix for good. To watch them, you’ll have to get a Disney+ subscription. Disney+ will cost $6.99/month—or around half the price of Netflix’s most popular subscription.” https://www.forbes.com/sites/stephenmcbride1/2019/07/08/netflixs-worst-nightmare-has-come-true/#5db2c9c2396d luna’s advocate
dynamite 57,395
Disney + and chill just doesn't have the same ring to it Like a poem said by a neydy in red
Reginald 13,841
This sucks for consumers. I'm not a big consumer of video content outside of Twitch and YouTube, but for people who watch TV is it even gonna be worth paying for all of these seperate streaming services? I hope this never happens with music streaming / record labels taking ownership back from streaming platforms. If it does, I'm going straight back to physical albums and buying mp3s direct from the artist's pages.
BUtterfield 8 41,342
The point of streaming film/tv, at least in the beginning, was an alternative way to cut the cost of cable but with everyone trying to make their exclusive streaming platform, the cost of cable and paying for multiple streaming a month will cost the same so will people just go back to cable? we’ll see
Morphine Prince 105,404
I don't understand the logic of these streaming platforms. People are not going to pay $10 for 5 different streaming services a month. That's insane. All it will do is make people have to pay cable-like prices for all the content they want (if that's the case). Netflix is a giant and I doubt they'll go down anytime soon. A lot of theit original content is amazing and they were smart for starting to create their own content. I guess this was bound to happen. I personally will not be getting any new service. **** them. Only Netlfix, and I have Spotify Premium which includes Hulu. So I'm good! Won't miss the rest. Where I live cable is included anyway so I get the best of both worlds in content I guess. They're gonna push people to pirate shows and movies more again. It's like if each music label started their own streaming service instead of just having it all on the 2 main ones, Spotify and Apple Music.
Alphaz 7,956
Nahhh.... Netflix still have some best original series and movie.
Maleficent 6
so we went from having to pay 70$ a month for a whole bunch of channels on cable, to 12$ a month for unlimited streaming, and know we’re gonna go back to paying 70$ a month for a whole bunch of channels on streaming. a truly reverse warholian experience
Teal Ambition 47,805
me and @KleinGa discuss this all the time. We're basically going back to where we started. Everyone is coming out with their own streaming services, so with all the packages added up you're basically paying the same thing as cable, so what's the point? That being said, I don't think Netflix will be going down anytime soon, they're still a super powerful company with loads of consumers ▌│█║▌║▌║ before I am Canadian, I am Chromatican ║▌║▌║█│▌
DeleteMyAccount 11,881
Disney+ will have all the original Disney Channel movies. They win on that alone.
weed 73,530
this is so scary to me lmao like.... Disney needs to be stopped. They’re a “good” company ig but literally will own entertainment in 10 years. Corporations are too powerful
JazzGa 14,618
Good thing I don't give a **** about watching all those reheated leftover sequels and reboots more than one time My old cat is a tough man, but i cant deny the way he bites my hand and he stabs me, he grabs me by my heart <
Anderson123 38,060
I only pay for Netflix and HBO Go right now but not really feeling like paying for Disney+ unless I had a son or a nephew. It’s not like I’m always going to be in the mood for Disney movies.
Miel 15,009
As other people have mentioned, it's great that Netflix (and Hulu, and Prime) have started pushing more and more original content. Especially since each of them have sets of critically acclaimed and/or incredibly popular original content, I'm hoping that would be good enough to sustain themselves for now. But yeah, I agree that the rise in competitive streaming services, like... sucks balls. 3 points in and ready for more
Bio 23,538
This is just gonna throw consumers back to torrent and piracy in general.
mauvais 0
People will just go back to pirating, whatever. Disney is asking to be broken up in a landmark antitrust ruling. 23 minutes ago, Morphine Prince said: They're gonna push people to pirate shows and movies more again. It's like if each music label started their own streaming service instead of just having it all on the 2 main ones, Spotify and Apple Music. Sony and UMG actually tried that back in the day to starve off Napster. PressPlay was a weird combination of Spotify and iTunes. It was a massive, massive flop (duh) but the labels, at least, understood they were stronger together. NBCUniversal and Sony are insane to pull everything off Netflix/Amazon and not even Thelma and Louise it.
