It's kinda sad. I know we should be happy Gaga won an Oscar and all but the VMAs are still a decent promotional tool and if Gaga was planning a single release in August this would've been a perfect slot. Too bad.

Katy deserves a Vanguard. They both deserve a Vanguard. It's not a competitive award.
LG has 13 VMAs (and the most iconic MV of this century). Every year music publications and other artists talk about her receiving the Vanguard. It makes me wonder if she really has declined (graciously declined). I'm pretty sure that the VMAs would love to be able to promote a show that featured Lady Gaga.
The thing about the VMAs is that they need to do something to be relevant again. The show peaked around 2010-11 with 11-12 million viewers, roughly the same as the BMAs and AMAs. By 2018 the BMAs were down to 7.8 million viewers, the AMAs 6.5 million. The VMAs were down to 2.2 million. Sad.

Just because Perfect Illusion and MR weren't the exact same type of videos doesn't suggest her entire videography went downhill   LG6 doesn't come yet. 

Joanne era was less Gaga more Stefani, and sure the MR video was bad, but John Wayne was still amazing. Let's not suggest that her videography is no longer good since, because she's had iconic moments.

Gaga will obviously get this award one day. Maybe not this year, maybe not next, but she will eventually. Billboard already labeled Bad Romance and Telephone as the most iconic videos of the 2000's and the 2010's. I'm not worried. Katy will also be deserving if she receives it, no denying that.

It would be awesome for her to get it. She deserves to be recognized too, she had her prime as well and her music was slightly before Gaga. Gaga will have her time, just another award for Gaga tbh. Gaga barely attends award shows anyways.

Guys, they both took off in 2008, one of them will obviously win before the other one. And honnestly, Gaga just won 3 GRAMMYs, a Golden Globe and an Oscar. We should just let Katy have her moment.

We all know that the VMAs just need to have Gaga to be relevant again. The numbers of viewers speak for themselves every year (and also with any other award show). Having Gaga will double their success, it's that simple
