Another earthquake in California

I didn’t feel the first one when I was at home in San Francisco, but I definitely felt this one since I’m in Fresno visiting family.

We were having dinner and I joked that we were having another earthquake when I thought it was just one of my heavyset relatives was running down the hall :deadbanana::rip:

There's a possibility that this earthquake was a fore-shock for an even larger quake (like earthquake inception).

Stay safe everyone in the ridgecrest area!

No. I was just chilling in my room and was like oh it’s an earthquake. It lasted  awhile but it wasn’t BIG like everyone is claiming. My friends said the same thing when I texted them.

To be fair LA is well over 100 miles away and experienced shaking equivalent to a 4 magnitude. The 7.1 shaking was felt in the desert town.

I'm worried this is leading to the long expected BIG ONE and 7.1 still isnt it...

I felt the one yesterday and today and the one today felt stronger and lasted longer...I ran out of my apartment

The one we had yesterday was much harder, I was at work and thought I was fainting lol but then my coworker started freaking out about the lights shaking.

The one today, I felt for a long time but it wasn't that strong. My mom totally freaked out and started setting up a cooler with water bottles. I got super nauseous and dizzy from it. I'm in Orange County so maybe 40mins from LA

USGS said that within the next week there is a 10% chance of another magnitude 7 earthquake occurring in the same fault line, a 50% chance of a magnitude 6 earthquake, and all but certain another 5 magnitude would occur (it already did just minutes ago). There is a 5% chance that the 7.1 experienced today will turn out to be another foreshock for a larger earthquake.

The fault line where this happened is not close enough to the San Andreas to cause concern for an event along it. Most Californians should be safe and the only ones with real reason to be concerned are in Ridgecrest. You shouldn’t worry too much about this one.

I’m in Southern California and was eating at a sushi restaurant and people ran out and the light fixtures were shaking. Definitely terrifying and seemed to last forever but I hope this is as bad as it gets.

Yeah that's true, but I felt it and was scared sh*tless for a minute. Someone in LA would've felt it and been concerned for a second.   :ohno:
