Data Reveals Why Netflix Cancels Shows After Two Seasons

To put it plainly: New shows are cheaper. When a series launches, everyone involved gets paid a certain amount of money. After two seasons of that series being considered a success and being enjoyed by fans, it's usually time for new contracts with a pay bump for those involved. Sounds fair, right?

Well, for Netflix, the costs of those raises aren't exactly worth the return of the show's traffic. The third season of a series will see dedicated fans tuning in, but likely doesn't have the same return as a new show that everyone can start from the beginning.

The Carpenters

Unless the show has a reason to go beyond a couple of seasons it really makes sense to move on.

Kinda sad in a way if you get invested in a show, long live Grace and frankie! So happy it’s coming back for a 6th season!

Wasn't that show super expensive to film because it is film on location in their respective countries? I remember reading that that was the reasoning behind the cancellation. And there was also internal conflicts with directors, etc. The show was amazing but there was supposedly a lot of behind the scenes issues.

i call bull crap... a lot of these actors cant even bargain for higher pay because they have no idea what the viewership and ratings are like for their own shows (and a lot of these contracts are based on a celeb's status and how in demand they may be)

traffic is not seen as valuable by Netflix because they do not seek advertisers (thus, flaunting viewership numbers to advertisers becomes redundant)

there must be some other determining factors... just dont know what they may be

What about 13 Reasons Why then? I mean I know Katherine Langford moves on after season 2 but the actors had a raise then to shoot season 3. I don’t know this just doesn’t make sense.

It really is, in my top 5 shows, It’s just so brilliant, all the characters are so well thought out and funny. I’d love dolly to be in it, I don’t think season 6 will feature her but fingers crossed for 7.  2 women in their 70’s kicking a**, LOVE IT!

slight hint for new season I found in a interview, slight spoiler:

Spoiler

Apparently Grace and Frankie start another new business
