He’s expressing the opinion of millions of people with private insurance, many who are part of unions in the rust belt.

He’s also right about the House seats.

These opinions may not be popular here, but they could be with Democrats who vote and Independents in a general election.

No country that has gone to a single payer healthcare system has ever gone back to a private insurance based system. 

This is ludicrous. This is a non-debate. The majority of the country wants it because it will benefit the vast majority.

Corporate greed as usual. When people have their pockets lined with funding from these large insurance companies, they’re going to pander to their special interests as opposed to exploring other alternatives.

In polls conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation and Navigator Research, majorities of the public endorse the concept of “Medicare for All,” but evince ignorance about what such a policy would actually entail.

In Kaiser’s polling, most voters said that in a Medicare for All system, Americans would retain the option of keeping their current private insurance plans.

In other words: When the median voter hears Medicare for All, they ostensibly picture a health-care system similar to our current one, except that Americans of all ages would gain the opportunity to buy into a Medicare-like public health-insurance program (i.e., one that would require beneficiaries to make various cost-sharing payments, just as the already-existing Medicare does).

This isn’t the first Kaiser poll to produce such a result (although it offers more detail about voters’ conceptions of Medicare for All than the foundation’s previous polls). And Navigator Research affirms Kaiser’s findings. In Navigator’s survey, 60 percent of voters said that Medicare for All was best described as “a health care plan that lets anyone buy Medicare instead of their current private insurance, if they want to.”

Medicare For All needs to be better than private plans in order to gain more popularity.

AOC managed to defeat a Democrat who was thinking of becoming speaker lmao. So anything can happen in certain districts.

Americans have been brainwashed by the insurance industry for decades. 

The private plans may indeed be good for certain people but in reality if you want more access to healthcare for EVERYONE, we cannot keep the current system. 

The private sector should be a minority in healthcare, not the other way around.

Medicare for all covers virtually anything a private insurance plan would cover. In fact, the only thing it wouldn’t cover is cosmetic surgery and I’d be interested to know how many peoples plans actually cover a boob job or a face lift. 

Americans would gain access to any doctor, any clinic, any hospital and would not being limited to a network forced upon them by their private insurance plans. 

This new framing that most Americans “PREFER” their private insurance plans is such a red herring. They’ve moved on from the cost argument, because it’s been debunked. 

It’s now based in fearmongering that Medicare for all would not cover as much as a private insurance plan would. Of course Americans are afraid of that and of course they equate the idea of full coverage as necessarily supplementing it with private insurance- it is all Americans have ever known. This simply is not the case, however. You don’t need private insurance to get your care under single payer. 

Keep Medicare for all WELL funded and we won’t have any problems. 

Keep research and development well funded and we won’t have a single problem. 

Know that and yell it as loud as you can so that conservative and neoliberal politicians get the hint. No politician will ever even THINK of touching Medicare for all once it has been rolled out completely.

I don't understand why (some) Americans don't want universal healthcare.

Countries like Canada have both universal healthcare and private healthcare, so if you're not insured, you're not totally screwed with getting your basic health in line. And if you want private... then just pay for what you want.

It's not like private insurance will disappear completely. It should be a option, not a default.
