After sharing a picture of her 8-month-old daughter Banks with newly pierced ears, the “Haunting of Sharon Tate” actress, 31, received plenty of negative feedback.

Some Duff fans, however, came to the star’s defense: “Got my bubs ears pierced at 3 months old, she didn’t even wake from her sleep, not one single problem with them. She’s now older & has never had an issue,” one person shared. “She can always take them out if she hates them. You all crazing giving someone crap over what they do to ‘their’ child.” A second commenter shared similar thoughts: “Baby is fine and ear piercing is so far from abuse! But hey, let’s promote mom shaming and online bullying from all the keyboard warriors.”

Duff isn’t the first celeb to catch flak over piercing drama; Cardi B, Kylie Jenner and Khloé Kardashian have all recently been criticized for the same thing. And it seems the trolls might actually have a point; The Post reported that doctors generally advise not to perform elective procedures, such as cosmetic ear piercing, until a child is old enough to care for themselves.

Ammm Why? It’s her child and in MANY cultures it’s totally okay to do that. I’m female and my parents did this when I was younger. People need to chill and take care of their own problems and children. This is nothing that anyone should be considered about. It’s like those “good” parents protesting circumcision.

But mothers have been piercing their infant daughters since forever. I don't get why Hilary Duff is getting backlash for something so incredibly ordinary lol

Questioning everything and shaming people for every decision based in a cultural tradition, is getting really tiring.

It’s better to do it at young age. Like circumcision :ohwell:

circumcision is a much more serious procedure though.... i believe no parent should impose it on their child. but thats my opinion haha

It mostly for religious reasons and circumcision today is an extremely safe procedure so there's nothing wrong with it. Also, circumcision results in being able to last longer in bed :ohwell:

there are MULTIPLE arguments against it and for it. I could oppose you the fact that intact men have more pleasure with their foreskin. And btw there are many ways to last long in bed without circumcision that's just dumb.

Circumcision is stil a serious surgery with some inherent risks. Imposing it on your son is a choice, but you'll have to remember that it cannot be repaired or renounced  to like piercing ears can.

I would disagree that it is not a big deal to circumcise your child.

Actually more than 50% circumcisions are done for health reasons and not for religion ones. It’s recommended procedure because of many urinal infection that can occur because of skin that is making unreachable areas on someones penis.

It's better not to do circumcision at all. As for ear piercing, I think it's better to wait until the child can choose for herself.

Is this one of them? Maybe it used to be... maybe it's becoming less so. Maybe it should. Because maybe we should recognize that children aren't property.

(I actually don't care all that much about this, I'm not like "Hilary Duff is cancelled"; but if you ask me if I think that's the right thing to do, well, no.)

What's the point of doing that? Let the child decid for themselves. In my culture it's also pretty common.

Sugar, spice, and everything nice.
