This isn’t the movie and Hermione is just a character. Just because a black person looks more different from a white person than a white person looking different from another white person, doesn’t mean one of them looks more like Hermione. Both black and white aren’t Emma Watson, so they should be both be able to play the role no mater their skin tone. In the end it’s about the best actress telling the story. There is ridiculousness and pressed people on every side of this conversation.

Just telling you why some of them are expecting someone like the Ariel described in the book or the Ariel in the animation. Sis I know the original stories very well, but once again Disney ain’t telling the original stories. In the book her boobs were naked and it the Disney movie she is wearing ****ing shells... But I guess some people are only mentioning the book when it’s in their advantage.

OMonster 14,579
It's not racist to want to see your favourite Disney character actually look like your favourite disney character. Of course some people are going to be disappointed by Ariel not looking like the Ariel they know and love - because that's the point of live action remakes... to bring to life past nostalgia, adding a sense of reality to childhood magic. Ariel's cartoon image is immortalised in Hollywood and in the minds of many - and it sure does feel like an odd choice to cast someone who differs so greatly from what we know. That said, I am sure Halle will do a fine job. But that doesn't change the fact that people are rightfully going to question this choice. subtext / fantasy

In the original her hair color isn't mentioned, just her blue eyes, and skin as "clear and delicate as a rose." Yes but she was introduced to the masses through a visual medium. If you ask the average person, they probably have no clue that the Little Mermaid was a very dark Danish fairytale. However the can tell you exactly how Ariel looks. Its like casting Harry Potter and omitting the scar. I use HP because people were very upset about adult Hermione being cast by a black actress and I was absolutely okay with it. Her looks were ambiguous in the books and she existed in peoples consciousness for quite a long time before Emma Watson was ever cast. I feel like this is not the case with Ariel. I was born the year it came out and my whole early childhood was marked by that film. She has a pretty definitive appearance in the mind of so many people. ⚯͛
