They try to make every character look like the one the cartoon movie except here :rip:

I mean it’s okay cause I don’t like the new movies but yikes. It’s not like gingers are that represtented in movies.

Not happy. Ariel is an iconic ginger. It would be like casting a Weasley without red hair.

But yes, I agree with this. :(

And this is what they did. Naomi Scott is Indian, not Arabic.

Cmon, you know where i'm getting at. Naomi Scott looks medditeranean so it looks close enough.

There is a huge difference of appearance between the actress they cast and Ariel, doesnt match. I'm not angry about it or anything I just don't think it's coherent at all

Would be like casting an asian woman for the role of Jasmine in Aladdin

Ariel’s race isn’t an important factor like jasmines. All she has to be is a mermaid and this version is rumored to be moving locations anyway.

Casting an African American for the purpose of representation for a period Danish movie while Disney has an incredible story about an African American princess that goes unused? Maybe this would make sense if Disney didn’t already have a film that highlights and celebrates actual African American culture. Is this not in some twisted way white washing? By just switching races of a popular princess...

I’m really disappointed. It makes zero sense to not cast Ariel as a redhead. Its not like a character in a novel that can be left up to interpretation. Everyone know what Ariel is supposed to look like. This isn’t it.

Except it is a character from literature. It's a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, adapted by Disney. In the original her hair color isn't mentioned, just her blue eyes, and skin as "clear and delicate as a rose."

Except it is. Check out the original illustration of the little mermaid by Andersen.

Based on the casting alone I can tell whether I’ll like a movie. First they go with Melissa McCarthy when literally anyone else would’ve been better & now they go with this random a** “actress” who isn’t even the description of the character. Honestly if they were going to race bend the main role they should’ve went with Zendaya.

Reginald

I've honestly hard-passed on all of the Disney live action remakes except Beauty and The Beast. Passing on Lion King as well.  Idk about this one either.

Edit : lol I'm pleasantly surprised to see GGD's block feature is in full working order based on some of the users I see you guys replying to. :sara::sara:
