Melech 9,900
They try to make every character look like the one the cartoon movie except here I mean it’s okay cause I don’t like the new movies but yikes. It’s not like gingers are that represtented in movies.
Teal Ambition 47,805
First read this as Halle Berry and I was never more confused in my entire life 8 minutes ago, GypsyBabe said: Not happy. Ariel is an iconic ginger. It would be like casting a Weasley without red hair. But yes, I agree with this. ▌│█║▌║▌║ before I am Canadian, I am Chromatican ║▌║▌║█│▌

Naomi Scott looks medditeranean so it looks close enough. There is a huge difference of appearance between the actress they cast and Ariel, doesnt match. I'm not angry about it or anything I just don't think it's coherent at all

All she has to be is a mermaid and this version is rumored to be moving locations anyway.

PaulR2345 1,106
Casting an African American for the purpose of representation for a period Danish movie while Disney has an incredible story about an African American princess that goes unused? Maybe this would make sense if Disney didn’t already have a film that highlights and celebrates actual African American culture. Is this not in some twisted way white washing? By just switching races of a popular princess...

Its not like a character in a novel that can be left up to interpretation. Everyone know what Ariel is supposed to look like. This isn’t it. Except it is a character from literature. It's a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, adapted by Disney. In the original her hair color isn't mentioned, just her blue eyes, and skin as "clear and delicate as a rose." First they go with Melissa McCarthy when literally anyone else would’ve been better & now they go with this random a** “actress” who isn’t even the description of the character. Honestly if they were going to race bend the main role they should’ve went with Zendaya.
Reginald 13,841
I've honestly hard-passed on all of the Disney live action remakes except Beauty and The Beast. Passing on Lion King as well. Idk about this one either. Edit : lol I'm pleasantly surprised to see GGD's block feature is in full working order based on some of the users I see you guys replying to.
