Biggest Fan 988
Good afternoon ! With the bad situation Taylor Swift remain at the moment. Could Lady Gaga be in possession of ownership from everything she makes; along with her Discography, Music Videos, and Masters etc,. ❓❓❔ How is she able/ not able ⁉️ I would like to know Monsters! 🤖
Delusional Aura 5,129
I highly doubt it. It destroys me to know that she doesn't own the albums Born This Way and The Fame Monster.
sampool 5,560
If not, lets just hope that her label would be decent enough to sell them to her. For the queens that are siding with scooter, y'all would be pressed if Interscope sold her masters to Troy.
MrDaniel 14,666
They can sell them to her just not that scooter

I'm wondering if that was involved at all when she renegotiated her contract back in 2015. 3 points in and ready for more
Reginald 13,840
Very unlikely . Pretty much anyone who's signed to a major label does not own the rights to their music, sadly. That's how the major music industry works -- The label gives these artists loans for x amount of money to cover recording, promo, touring etc etc with the agreement that the artist will pay them back, but the label actually owns the rights to distribute the music however/whenever they see fit, if they even decide to release it at all. MrDarkGa 311
Can someone tell me what an artist's "masters" are and how an artist may not own them?
Zombiecat 16,178
No idg the whole Taylor thing cos most people can't just buy the full 100% of their masters.. pretty much all label contracts have the label owning the masters and the artists get their royalties from writing etc I signed a minor publishing deal once and it didn't go anywhere but the songs they have written in my contract from that time are pretty much owned by them A lot of newly signed artists that the label shelf never get their's https://linktr.ee/jamalholt
Kimmo 80,342
No, she only renegotiated to finally get royalties from her songs... https://www.digitalmusicnews.com/2014/06/10/streaming-services-screwing-lady-gaga-every-artist/ Hottie Detector

The master is the original final copy of work. Whoever owns the rights to the master essentially owns the work itself, along with all rights to distribute, remix, remaster, license, etc etc etc. The artist still receives revenue from the work when it's reused, but they have no control whatsoever over how their art is used or sold

mauvais 0
No, she doesn't and I don't think she needs to unless/until she's interested in running her own record label.
