Scooter did nothing wrong

jacs vs looser

Though I do feel for Taylor not being able to attain her masters, the way she weaponized her social media to target a man in such disproportionate manner, is just ... not Ok.

I understand her sadness and frustration, and at first I was on her side, but after reading about so many people standing up for Scooter's character (which was personally put to question by her), and realizing that the only people that are defending her are either not in the industry or completly removed from the situation, my opinnion has shifted.

Furthermore, watching her fans accept her statements without any question and go bezerk against anyone who even in the slightest  dares oppose what she says is just a nasty sight to witness.

I agree with you 150% and then some. I can't believe they are dragging Sia and Demi so cruelly. I might get hate for this, but if an industry executive like Scooter came out and said that Taylor Swift sexually assaulted him, NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. People would defend Taylor without batting an eye. All of this outrage is a result of men-hating internet culture. There are zero facts to support that Scooter directly bullied/controlled Taylor. If I were Scooter, I'd sue Taylor for slander & defamation of character.

Wow let’s just make this about sexual assault when this isn’t even about that.

Taylor Swift was sexually assaulted and went to court and won.

The fact that you even went to sexual assault means you don’t have a grasp about what is happening.

This is about Property Rights not sexism.

The Taylor swift masters aren’t her property. (Which is saddening to hear about any artist, but taylor knew the terms before signing her contract. And she most definitely did not sign it without consulting lawyers first). The dragging of scooter is definitely fueled by men-hating culture. I just made an analogy, I didn’t change the topic.

Polemic thread here but some things need to be said. Scooter bought Big Machine Label Group for US$ 300.000.000. That's a huge amount of money. Is Taylor really considering he only did that because of her? Only to control her? That doesn't make sense. He saw a great business opportunity and he took it, that's all.

Taylor dislikes him, I understand that. She also wants to own 100% of her albums but that's not how things work in the industry. Tell me how many singers possesses 100% of their song rights. Record companies generally provide all the necessary structure for singers, composers, producers to work on an album. They invest money in production and marketing, so they own 60% of any songs published under their label. You may argue if this is right or not but things have been like this since always.

Also, why should we attack Scooter because of Taylor's words when there are other professionals supporting him, including women (Demi, SIA)? They know him better than Taylor does, I suppose. They've worked with him. It seems we're again in a crusade to destroy a man image only because he's a man and there's a woman against him. This have become pretty common in the last couple of years.

Yeah but all her masters were recently republished. So there's that.

No you made it about sexually assault.

Holding people accountable for their actions isn’t “men hating culture”

Take your anti-feminist views else where.

And what actions did scooter take? Buying a music label?

why should he be held accountable for that?

Read the dozens of other posts about this situation because you’ve pissed me off as a sexually assault survivor by claiming that Taylor Swift, a sexual assault survivor, would even even think of sexually assaulting Scooter.

Good day to ya.

If it was almost anyone else I along with I'm sure Taylor would agree with you. And yes from a business standpoint this was a smart move. But this is more emotionally driven than I think anyone realises/is willing to admit. He obviously dislikes Taylor - can be seen from the Kanye stuff. And Scott obviously bears resentment towards Taylor for her not signing with him again. Scooter is very money hungry and it was a perfect storm, Scooter makes a lot of money off Taylor's stuff, is able to block her from getting a lot of records etc. and Scott makes a crap ton of money. It is horrible that two money hungry misogynistic were able to work together to belittle one of the most powerful musicians out there. What does this tell younger female musicians?

I never claimed that Taylor swift would sexually assault someone. Don’t twist my words.

I can see your point, but I don't agree with the "this is how the industry is done". That is hardly a defense for a poor practice lol like the Nuremberg trials made the same point lolol We should still expect better from people. In this case, Taylor should have had a chance to buy back her masters if Borchetta was selling the company. It's messed up to sell the company and keep said sale mostly in the dark from Taylor so that he could keep the company's valuation up. It's just shady. And the deal everyone refers to was kind of awful as it only gave her masters rights to her old stuff, not the new work she put in in exchange for it. Like, that's a deal designed for someone not to take it because it's designed to keep her working for them in perpetuity.

I wouldn't say I necessarily "feel bad" for her, but I do think it illuminates a larger industry problem about who gets to own and profit off of an artist's work. I get why the deal is as it is when someone starts (even if I'm not the biggest fan), but it shouldn't be *such* a fight to get the rights back.
