Those who support Barack Obama's Medicare for all solution via a public option (which is a decade old, btw):

Hillary Clinton (2016), Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, Beto O'Rourke, Kirsten Gillibrand, Amy Klobuchar, Corey Booker, Julian Castro, Michael Bennett, Delany, Hickenlooper, Inslee, Swallwell, Williamson, Yang.

Those who support Bernie's healthcare plan:

Bernie, Warren, de Blasio.

--

Those who support tuition free college for everyone at every school:

Warren, Mike Gravel

Those who support Hillary Clinton's debt-free and free community college plan (yes, she put it out first):

Bernie, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, Beto O'Rourke, Kirsten Gillibrand, Corey Booker, Julian Castro, Delany, Hickenlooper, Inslee, Swallwell, Williamson, Yang.

Tell me more about how they're falling in line with Bernie, but in the meantime I'll leave this here:

I already said these things aren’t new. I’m talking about the overall rhetoric.

It’s more mainstream than ever thanks to Sanders. He undoubtedly changed the overall tone in the party.

Found an article that echoes my thoughts:

Ok, you want to talk in un-quantifiable measures of rhetoric. Fine, cute. Pardon me for even attempting to unpack this discussion.

As you know, you're making the argument that Bernie has push the Overton window leftward -- he goes far left and now the formerly far left position, a public option, is more palatable. Yes, we have Bernie to thank for that.

But you cannot make the argument that Bernie is simultaneously representing the mainstream positions AND going so far to the left that he is shifting the window of politically feasible positions.

I actually attached an article if you’re interested.

And I said many of his positions are now mainstream. As in PART OF what seems to now be mainstream.

Back in 2016 he sounded more “far left” and now he has the task to differentiate himself further as the rhetoric has shifted. I’d say that’s actually a challenge for him if he wants to win.

It blows my mind that people think an old straight white millionaire man (with millions of dollars in campaign coffers) and a 37 year-old queer midwestern first-generation American with thousands of dollars in student loan debt have the same privilege to run the same campaign.

Bernie has now spent 30 years in Congress making millions even before he ran for president in 2016. He had the money and connection to top-tier staffers and organizers to run like he did in 2016, and now he has millions left over (plus the biggest email list in Democratic politics) to run this campaign.

Pete was a broke nobody in fly-over-country 6 months ago when he decided he'd be the first LGBTQIA+ person to ever seriously seek the highest office.

Bernie's privilege lets him run the way he does, and imo Pete couldn't afford that. I'd be surprised if Buttigieg doesn't eventually stop doing high-dollar fundraisers by the end, tho.

You know they're seething when they start calling a religious gay midwestern mayor of a small town in Indiana the Democratic "establishment."

Again, taking money from corporations or Wall Street does not make you a pawn. Obama did more with Dodd-Frank to regulate Wall Street than any other president in history -- including FDR -- and his campaign too sought corporate dollars.

Since when does being gay and from the Midwest exempt you from using establishment tactics such as creating PACS and taking money from mega donors? It does not.

Dodd-Frank was weakened by bank lobbyists and ended up making the “big bank” issue even worse. How is that anything to celebrate? It’s so bad and watered down that progressives these days actually call for reinstating Glass-Steagall.

Obama campaigned on a public option and gave us Romneycare. He campaigned on being against free trade deals and fought for the TPP.

Obama was/is a corporatist. He took corporate money to keep the corporate machine running. That is a fact. So, in a sense, comparing Buttigieg to Obama is very fitting.

The progressive argument is that we have had enough of the corporate politician and neoliberalism. The progressive/social democratic intent is, in fact, to save capitalism from itself.

I think Bernie is cool. If you truly think he's the best candidate, then you should be comfortable he will win. Instead of taking the time to write this post, you could have donated to his grassroots-funded campaign and gotten 3 friends or family members to chip in 5 bucks too. He'll need it to compete.

In 2016, Bernie lost to Hillary Clinton (the wildly unpopular WOMAN in the fatally sexist United States)  by nearly 4 million votes. 3,708,294 votes, not superdelegate votes, but VOTES. In 2019, he is running essentially the same campaign. Pete is tone-deaf? There's a saying about glass houses and stones, but I can't seem to remember it :gum:

"Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones" is the saying

Given the specific exception, he would be wise to put out a plan that lays out how the 1% would be excluded, what “reduced costs” means, and how the “reduction” would be paid for. I imagine he won’t, however, because I am using my prerogative as a voter to call bullshit.

Pete’s problem isn’t just a matter of misspeaking. It’s a matter of being tone deaf and having a massive blind spot in an era in which we are increasingly aware of the vicious cycles that hurt minority communities.

I do not shame Buttigieg for being ignorant - though many of my peers would not be so kind - I shame him for attempting to give him a job promotion when he himself has admitted that he has made mistakes.

Buttigieg is not a villain, but there are better options.

God, have you even done your research well enough? You're just getting influenced by the media's false portrayal of him and his statements taken out of context

He has already cleared his stand on racial equity and his "All Lives Matter" remark

He took the time out to learn a few sentences in ASL to thank a deaf supporter.

This is what South Bend residents, the city of which he's the mayor of have to say about him

This is what a black South Bend resident had to say about his misrepresentation in the media

He has even left his campaign trail preemptively midway to address the current racial situation that has troubled South Bend.

Now while I agree he has had issues dealing with systemic racism and criminal justice in the past and he's still struggling to tackle them, at least he is willing to confront them upfront and admit his shortcomings. He has the nerves to tackle them head-on and take responsibility. But to say that he's tone-deaf could not be further from the truth.

He surely needs to elaborate more on the policy front, and how he deals with recent racial issues is going to be key in his going forward from this point onwards, but nobody can deny that he is a strong candidate with empathy, compassion, intelligence and moral and ethical values to take the right decisions

Editing bc I didn’t call our your lie/misunderstanding. A campaign is not a PAC. Campaigns cannot talk to PACs, they cannot encourage you to donate to a PAC, PACs can only give 5k dollars to a candidate, and even if you are a billionaire, the most you can give to a candidate is $2,800. That’s chump-change, my dude. If you think any candidate sells out for $2,800, you’re wrong. Pete may talk to “mega donors” but the most they can possibly give him is $2,800. Deep breaths, buddy — you can stop raging against the machine.

Progressive these days want GS? Dude, you’re not paying attention. GS and DF aren’t mutually exclusive lol and we never stopped wanting GS. Obama fought for it hard but Republicans held it hostage when Obama was tasked with bailing out the economy.

Lol. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of the good, my dude. Obama was the most progressive president in generations and has done more in the first 50 years of his life for America than Bernie has in 75. No, Obama is not a corporatist. Your idealism has hurt your sense of judgement.

Because of him, millions more Americans have access to health insurance and care. The biggest consumer protection laws in American history were passed. His Supreme Court Justices gave us marriage equality. The first law making it illegal on a federal level to pay women less than men for the same work was passed. We pulled massive amounts of US forces from overseas wars. Historic diplomatic relations were restored with Cuba. The biggest economic stimulus package ever was passed because of him.

Nothing he did was perfect. Every step had massive flaws. Yes, we couldn’t get the public option passed. No, we didn’t stop bombing foreign countries, or get immigration solved or gun control done. At the end of the day, you can keep trashing Obama’s legacy, but Bernie still will not have accomplished much of anything in his life other than a track record of being a sore loser

Bernie has never won a competitive race. He’s never passed any progressive piece of legislation. Never been responsible for an executive branch. The largest  bureaucracy he’s ever been in charge of was his 2016 campaign, and women and men came out of the woodwork saying Sander/senior staff let sexual harassment run rampant. Sander’s response? He “was too busy running a campaign!”

Bernie’s message in a 2 person field fell short 4 million votes. He will lose again against more popular candidates than Clinton. Pete even is going to have more individual donors than Bernie this quarter because he’s a compelling liberal who actually isn’t a career politician.

tl;dr taking legal money from private businesses, which is totally public and transparent btw, doesn’t make you a corporatist.

Congrats to Mayor Pete!  He’s run an amazing campaign so far to be the first viable queer presidential candidate, and I’m glad we’re living in an era where that’s possible.    :unicorn:

Not surprised that this thread, which could have been a positive one, is being derailed by Bernie Bros pointing out that their candidate is God in all respects.  The guy himself is nice, but geez, the supporters turn me off from him as a candidate so much.

I'm talkin' 'bout forever, baby.

Jesse Jackson also just chimed in to say how absurd it is for us to blame the police involved shooting on Buttigieg and for faulting him for not solving the issues of... eh hem.. racism in America.

People like this user like to scrutinize the careers of servants like Buttigieg and Clinton, meanwhile their favorite candidate doesn’t even have a track record to scrutinize! I’d shoot back a criticism of Bernie’s legacy if he actually managed to accomplish anything.

Sorry, this isn’t negativity, I’m just stating the facts like the rest of the posters in the thread.

I like Bernie — he’s a good visionary with the right policy points for the most part — but he is anything but a “nice guy.” He’s got an insane temper and chews out his staff like his name was Amy Klobuchar.

His following is very cult-ish. Everyone else is a corporate pawn kinda mentality.

I see he finally put that up. Remember a few months ago only the “Meet Pete” link was there with videos of him speaking about the policies vaguely.

Yeah, I think they put it up very recently. Even now, it's a little obscure. Policies are instrumental in deciding the vote, they should be upfront. But that's just his campaign marketing's decision I'm guessing. Also, it's strange he doesn't talk about these often in his speeches. I'm starting to believe that it's his strategy to get people on board with values first so most people can relate to him first (since he's a virtually unknown candidate) and then brief them with policies as he moves forward and has a strong supporter base. If that's the case, then I'd say it's a very smart move on his side. :applause:

@OG Gaga Stan what are you so sad about? That Bernie has lost all his charm? I literally just posted a page from his website. This is deplorable, honestly.
