Perhaps the problems listed above are due to our marginalized status? I'm not sure but what I do know is that gays (and straights) need to reconsider capitalism, neo-liberalism and better work to deconstruct their identities/romantic attractions and so forth because they are socially constructed and not "real." Thanks so much for recommending those, they are excellent sources. And I couldn't agree with you more. Very happy to see some informed and, dare I say "woke" people on this site No judgment to any others, but lbr, not many are that interested in having long conversations about complex issues like this. And that's ok. Just fun to see others who are thinking about the same things

"The Construction of Homosexuality" should be necessary reading for my fellow queers as it details not just the last 50-100 years of our history but, rather, centuries. Many people buy "rainbow-washed" pride (every corporation adding rainbows to their ads or names and specials); lgbtq fail to acknowledge internalized racism, homophobia and misogyny. Yes, you were "born this way," but does excuse the "no fems" "no fats" "no blacks, whites only" mentality we find in the dating scene? Many post to social media in search of...I dunno...with altered pictures and the Hastags "Insta Gay", Hashtag Gay Pride." Some support Pete for prez just because he's gay (and fail to question his militarism or lack of connection to POC). Last election cycle it was "Bottoms For Hillary" on some t-shirts I had seen. I just don't get it. Yes, the community has been through hell and back. Now, let's all have a seat at the table of our queer, rad, campy history and have some vodka sodas! (It is okay to have fun while critiquing, I say) while I don't agree with everything you said, some points were made tho
imnotyourbabe10 6,100
I don't know how to quote everyone who responded but thank you for your guys' insights and thoughtfulness--helped me to fine-tune some of the ideas. Didn't mean to hijack this thread -- I just always struggle with Pride month and what it means and was incredibly apprehensive to post what I did on a cult site like this (lol) but really appreciate our dialogue. Have a great weekend to wrap up the Pride festivities. Be safe, have fun and stay woke.

As a gay man, I am so happy that she goes out of her way to support the LGBT. She has NEVER wavered in her passion and support for our community. I hope she NEVER listens to fans like you say stupid **** like that- and continues to give her passion, support, and power to the cause. BTW foundation has saved lives- you hear that- LIVES. And you want to pick apart a speech she made? You have got to be kidding me. Keep doing what you’re doing Gaga.

I would not doubt her words, but I mean it is your opinion. People who spoke strongly in every moment of history supporting civil rights (Abe Lincoln, MLK, JFK) were targeted by hate. Just by being so vocal and sometimes being very strong about it shows someone’s strength in standing for what is right despite those with hate in their hearts that resort to violence. Don’t forget Jakarta. That was a nightmarish situation. If I recall, she even went as far as willing to perform the entire show herself to avoid putting her crew and dancers in dangers since most of them are LGBTQ+. So I agree with this comment and the ones that followed rehashing the point she always does the right thing.
