A ton of folks often don't follow news tho. I'm always impressed by how people often struggle to even name 5 persons in their government so I really ask myself if so many people know a lot about all that. Some clearly do but many trust the governments BS.

Well they protest but many don't even know the details and just believe the phony justifications given for wars.

In my country president Sarkozy did it and he wasn't reelected and president chirac was popular for refusing to go the Irak war.

I wanted to pull-up this specific quote, though. I absolutely want everyone to be free, safe and happy. But here's the thing - freedom, safety and happiness all mean such radically different things to different cultures. In some cultures, the execution of gay people is a *facilitator* of wider peace and happiness. In others, mutilating women's bodies is not seen as an infringement on one's freedom. 

And that's the problem. Cultures (or at least, radical sectors of a particular culture) can be very different, and are not meant to integrate. Because if they did, it would not be peaceful, happy or safe for many millions of people. And I think, again, that is all the Dalai Lama was saying - though failed to communicate that point responsibly. 

Again, and I'm sorry to repeat myself, I *do not* think that Muslim people living in the West pose a threat of incompatibility. Not at all. But I do think the radical hypothetical of 'a majority of Europe being Islamic' would be dangerous if that meant that their traditional religious and legal customs became dominant. 

I guess my point is that total freedom (for *anyone* to live *anywhere*) is not possible... not when some religious and cultural beliefs are so incompatible with others. And the likelihood of radical interpretations of religion declining (particularly in territories dominated by only one religion) is pretty low. 

THIS is the main risk and danger of mixing different cultures. It works if they are properly integrated and can co-exist. But as we know, that has not been easy with Islam in Europe.

I'm not really comfortable with such discussions. Saying Europe is better for Europeans and Africa is better for Africans is like, neglecting the fact that Europeans and Africans are humans before anything else. And that a land does not belong to anyone specifically, it belongs to all of us if we stopped acting like jerks and started caring about our planet and other living creatures.

We are so self-involved when it comes to land, acting as if we were still in middle ages. Live your life, boys and girls, eventually you'll leave this planet.

It's funny actually how as a human race we have inhabited this Earth. We have drawn invisible lines on land and segregated each other. We have created religion to create peace, yet at the same time to justify our opinions which are likely to be divisive. Many extremist use their religion as a justification for their actions. We have created boundaries based on our skin colour and stereotype people based on genetics. We have segregated people that have different sexual orientations or gender identifications. We have killed millions of our own species in order to preserve what we believe is right. 

Yet, I think that we sometimes forget, we are all human. It's a cliche, but I think that if we strip away a lot of what creates our identity, we will realise that we're all very similar. I think what we view as normal or extreme can sometimes be a result of social conditions. I hope that our natural core principles as human beings will one day flourish.
