On every Sunday there should be someone coming to your island to sell them! But I think you do have to get to a certain point in the game before they come. I think for me it was on the second week? I've been playing for three weeks now and have done a lot regarding island terraforming, but I feel like I'm getting no items to decorate... Originally I just wanted to play regularly without having to trade and whatnot, but it's hard playing with not much to craft. And I have 185+ hrs on it...
