ChromeAngel 3,230
GWEN. Lamb and sweet excape are flawless pure pop albums. And this was during the height of pop music and videos I miss that era in music so much
La Rosalia 9,906
The only one that did ARTPOP better and tragically it happened just a month after Gaga’s release was Beyoncé. She served everything that Gaga promised with “BEYONCÉ”: high profile videos for all of the songs and the songs were “experimental” yet relatable and good. She won the ARTPOP concept. JazzGa 14,349
So what exactly references art, iconography/symbolism, highbrow and lowbrow culture coming together, or any element of "art-pop" in those videos? I'm not seeing it, just seeing some colorful pop videos. These look like lowbrow pop culture alone to me. Not seeing the references to the art world. (But I didn't watch 100% of all the videos) I'd say Madonna's new album Madame X is art-pop because it actually references the world of art-- her track "I Don't Seek, I Find" is a Picasso quote. I'd also say Jay Z and Beyonce's APESH*T is a great, intentional example of political art-pop. It was filmed in the Louvre and intentionally juxtaposes that which is considered "snobby and fancy" (Paris, the art world, the museum) with that which is considered "not snobby enough to be included in the inner circle" (hip hop, pop culture, and black culture) for the purpose of making a statement on society-- if 'black culture' is so popular and desirable right now, why are black artists still discluded from the serious inner circles of art and fashion, while at the same time the Fine Art and Fashion industries constantly co-opt hip hop culture?' Edit: Omg this Gagadaily autocorrect is killin me God created Adam and Eve, but Gọdga collabed with Brian🎺 and Steve🎷
