ViviLittleM 3
Grande’s North American leg already surpassed her previous tours’ worldwide totals. On July 13, Ariana Grande played the last of 48 dates of the Sweetener World Tour’s first leg. The trek’s last six shows hit the Hot Tours recap dated Aug. 17, 2019 at No. 6. At the close of the tour’s North American leg, Grande has earned $78.8 million and sold 659,842 tickets in 2019, according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore. Grande picked up the pace on the Sweetener trek, posting the best figures of her career. Her four-show run in New York (two shows at Madison Square Garden and two at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center) marked both the highest-grossing and best-selling North American engagements of her career, but on opposite sides of the coin. The MSG double-header is now Grande’s biggest earner on the continent, with receipts of $5.5 million (28,576 tickets). Separately, her Barclays Center shows became her best-selling North American engagement, with 28,972 tickets ($4.4 million gross). Further, out of Grande’s 40 best-grossing engagements across her career, 32 come from the Sweetener World Tour’s first leg, an overwhelming figure considering the tour isn’t even at its halfway mark yet. The trek’s $78.8 million North American total towers over that of 2017’s Dangerous Woman Tour ($33.2 million) and 2015’s Honeymoon Tour ($22.8 million). That means that Grande’s current tour is up 137% from her previous continental sweep, with more dates in the U.S. and Canada scheduled for November and December. Spoiler With all of Europe and a second North American leg left, The Sweetener World Tour has already surpassed the global totals of her previous treks, as reported to Billboard Boxscore. She sailed past the Honeymoon Tour’s $25.3 million and squeezed ahead of the Dangerous Woman Tour ($71.1 million) by 11%. Grande has averaged $1.64 million per night on her 2019 trek, up from her North American pace of $830,000 from 2017. If her European shows follow the same 98% uptick, she is projected to earn $42.5-$45 million overseas. With the final scheduled leg as a North American redux, Grande’s tour is on track to break the $150 million barrier. The Sweetener World Tour was in a unique position to elevate Grande’s touring prowess. Grande announced the tour and its schedule in October 2018, two months after the release of its namesake, Sweetener which arrived atop the Billboard 200 on the back of two Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hits (“No Tears Left to Cry” and “God is a Woman”). Already primed to dominate 2019 from the stage, she released “Thank U, Next” last November and an album of the same name in February of 2019, a rare quick pace for pop artists. The Sweetener follow-up also debuted at No. 1 and gave Grande her first two No. 1 titles on the Hot 100 – seven non-consecutive weeks for the title track and eight for “7 Rings.” Touring two No. 1 albums with a combined 21 Billboard Hot 100 entries, Grande effectively riled her fan base into a ticket-buying frenzy, mounting one of the top tours of 2019. a touring force
