Using this song and this video example is such an nasty ass unfair smear against Gaga, truly one of the best technical singers of our generation. It is a song that highlights the weak points of the voice in any female singer. The notes are written in the range where most women have to switch between head/mix/chest voice. Gaga's mix soars at a high D sharp and above, as well as sits naturally in the chest around a middle A or B. This song requires her to push her lower register (chest) up or bring her upper register (head/mix) down, which is challenging for ANY singer. I'm sure if you were pull up a clip of 'Shallow' from this same show, I'd bet my bottom dollar she sounds amazing. That, or even 'The Edge of Glory', another song written specifically for her voice. Or 'Poker Face', which sits in her lower register. No disrespect, but kindly do not come for a professional if you are not one. And on the offshoot that you are, I welcome your spirited debate. xo This was just my opinion, no novels please.
Benguan 472
I think this is true tbh... but her jazz show she still serves amazing vocals... I don't know but I think now her voice suits more in the jazz repertoire. Her performance for Shallow both at the Grammys and Oscars were not vocally impressive imo... the pitch is flat in some parts and she cracks her voice almost every time she sings "meet" in the second chorus... The Edge of Glory is lowered because it's literally not made for her voice and the studio version is audibly pitch shifted if you know legitimately anything about singing, let alone the female singing voice. Poker Face is mostly talking, with heavy backtracks in the chorus And people's voices break in different places so I don't know the condescension was coming from. Belting is also a different technique to just straight singing from your chest voice. Also It's Passaggio, Gaga used to be much more consistent across all registers, hence the song's existence. Talk out of your mouth please.
Nino 12
OT: She's straining much more in recent performances but she still sounds great. Especially in person the acoustics of the Enigma shows make her sound even better than she already does in videos. A vast majority of her discography is out of her natural range these days as she's aged. It's normal, it's happening to other girls around that age in pop music. The reverse side of this is that the lower end of her range sounds much better than it used to. Here's a more fair comparison. Her voice is very clearly damaged, you can hear she's raspier and more closed off, but she's still a world class performer, and when songs are more in her range they sound much better/not that different to 10 years ago. candiedroses 408
Cigarettes & touring are a singer's worst enemy. If she abstains from doing too much of either, she will be okay. She is not 22 anymore, she's a grown woman!! All of our voices become more rich and mature, some more than others... She still sounds great!
FentyGa 14,340
I think she's fallen from her peak She's still A rated for sure, but 2015-2017 was her absolute peak.
Midnightrush891 727
This is probably her natural voice, I feel like durning the fame and the fame monster she was trying to make her voice sound different. Plus smoking might have caught up with her, either way she still sounds good. People change, voices change, it’s not a big deal.
Killa 17,001
Her voice is either chesty for low notes or vieled for higher notes. It's obvious she's struggling, but she kicked off really well Enigma, it really happened this last months. Oscar performance also was very coreless singing, she's been very pitchy lately. Id guess she's not doing very well emotionally. And she relies too much on power, and it doesnt come from lower breathing in any way. Let's hope it's a phase, even her way of standing is very awkward, cause she's fighting her own body

yxi 4,999
She needs to stop smoking and drinking alcohol or she'll end up like Mariah in her 40's.
LeoFameMonster 1,592
so how do you explain the beginning of her career, her vocal range was limited and over the years its grown beyond. shes straining her voice because shes doing a Vegas show and performing independent shows and recording or filming new albums or movies. someone with so much discipline will never loose their voice
dit 46,317
Yeah I've noticed this since around the Joanne era actually. She had fantastic vocal moments of course but her voice has been getting strained and almost whiny

Recently it seems like she’s trying to sing deeper for some reason, and it does sound like she’s straining for some notes. I actually preferred the tone she had during TF, TFM, and BTW days JWT had amazing vocals
