Gaga’s voice sounds STRAINED (angry comments warning)

Listen, I’m not saying her voice is getting worse as time goes on, but this is starting to get to me, it’s like The Monster Ball 1.0 all over again, just without the accent. Her voice sounds so tired and strained, like almost unbearable to hear without thinking it’ll crack or break at any second, especially on Telephone during the chorus. Something tells me she’s not trying to focus on taking care of her voice as much as she did like past tours.

We need to admit that her best vocals were during her jazz era with Cheek to Cheek. Recently it seems like she’s trying to sing deeper for some reason, and it does sound like she’s straining for some notes. I actually preferred the tone she had during TF, TFM, and BTW days

Why do we need threads like this though. :saladga:

Because I’m tired and I realized I haven’t made a thread like this yet... so about those Portland videos...

hmm i mean, the voice does age, that doesnt necessarily mean she isn't taking care of it. we don't even see her smoking nearly as much either if at all. also, if her voice was straining how was she able to do those ad libs (which stay in the higher melody) while also dancing around? i didn't really hear much strain, just usual dancing awkwardness interrupting her vocals which she's known for

I'm not gonna be rude or anything to you, but every single time a person makes a thread about this, the thread turns into a complete mess. I always see people tearing down Gaga's vocals and I'm really sick of it. People over exaggerate that she can't sing anymore or I can't bear to hear her sing anymore when she still sounds amazing. We just have overly high expectations with Gaga. The last thread about this same topic made me feel so disappointed with this fanbase (in GGD) because they are tearing down her for no reason. You can have an opinion about Gaga, but please try to be respectful. Your comment "like almost unbearable to hear without thinking it’ll crack or break at any second" is very harsh imo.

Because why not? :saladga: This is a site dedicated to Lady Gaga and we mostly discuss about her and everything related to her.

To the OP, yeah, I have realized the same thing. Tbh, at least for me, Enigma will always be such a unnecesary move in Gaga's career and I'm tired of it already. Gaga seems tired, the show has nothing interesting, the looks are awful and her vocals sound strained. Not to mention how cringey the 2nd act is. :messga:

I know what you mean, I’m not trying to tear her down or anything, I just always have that thought in the back of my head whenever I hear her sing, especially in Enigma shows.

Sounds like she's tryna sing loud so she could hear herself. Any chest voice would be hard to catch with that mic. I'm not too sure though

I just don’t want her to go overboard and accidentally cause harm to her voice because we always demand something perfect everytime she does something

Well Gaga recently has used a hand mic instead of a headpiece which means she had to sing louder to be heard and her voice has changed in 10 years...

I guess it's just a part of getting older...but she also does a lot of dancing and compared to her sitting at a piano her voice is relaxed and her breathing isnt heavy

She’s surrounded by the best people  re: her voice. She will absolutely be taking care of it.

Also, for those that know legitimately anything about singing, let alone the female singing voice - 'Telephone' is written literally ON the passagio, more commonly called the "break" between a singer's belt, or chest, voice and their head voice.

Using this song and this video example is such an nasty ass unfair smear against Gaga, truly one of the best technical singers of our generation. It is a song that highlights the weak points of the voice in any female singer. The notes are written in the range where most women have to switch between head/mix/chest voice. Gaga's mix soars at a high D sharp and above, as well as sits naturally in the chest around  a middle A or B. This song requires her to push her lower register (chest) up or bring her upper register (head/mix) down, which is challenging for ANY singer.

I'm sure if you were pull up a clip of 'Shallow' from this same show, I'd bet my bottom dollar she sounds amazing. That, or even 'The Edge of Glory',  another song written specifically for her voice.  Or 'Poker Face', which sits in her lower register.

No disrespect, but kindly do not come for a professional if you are not one. And on the offshoot that you are, I welcome your spirited debate.

Yup, it's true. Since she ended Joanne World Tour her voice has not been worse. She sounds strained, even though she has an amazing voice control, she is not able to hit certain notes anymore. Of course she is getting older and it's so unfair to sing Shallow after dancing, changing outfits and singing for 1.5 hour nonstop. But here's a proof of her struggling during shallow:
