China says that trade tensions with the US go beyond just tarrifs and subsities which some Countries have complained unfairly raises competitiveness for China

 

China says the US is also putting pressure on China to change how it runs it's economy and is making an issue over stuff like growing State Owned Enterprises (Corporations owned by Government instead of investors and shareholders)

 

China says the demand go too deep into how their economy fundamentally works and that they will never change that just to avoid US tarrifs no matter how high they might get

Well Trumps trade war is never gonna end

 

Anyway while China does some questionable things in trade and it's fair to want to address those, I can believe it that Trump and his administration are being unreasonable

 

With Canada, some of the stuff was ludicrous and he cherry picked statistics to always say Canada was ripping off the US in trade while he refused to acknowledge the rest of the data that suggested otherwise

Well that's just crazy, 'cause USA literally would go bankrupt without China. If China decides not to loan any money to USA, then USA is ****ed. And then will be the rest of the world.

We’re gonna be ****ing broke. His trade war thing has literally put our American companies out of business. China doesn’t ****ing need us! We need them!  He just needs to make sure they aren’t doing us dirty then leave it the **** alone.

This trade negotiation process has been an ongoing negative process. [Trying to say that diplomatically].  When all you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail. I would rather he found other diplomatic avenues and alliances instead of  tariffs to include in the negotiations. I'm really most concerned about intellectual property theft, than most of the other issues on Trump's list. But Trump wants to bring manufacturing back into the USA.  I'm frustrated, because I suspect that he missed an opportunity to get a deal when he refused to remove the 10% tariffs that were in place. But maybe China really did have more objections than what we were led to believe.   idk.

Many analysts that I read think the canada/EU tariffs trade spat was unnecessary  and hurts us interests..

With China, there are significant problems here, but Trumps approach to foreign relations as a whole is making it worse....

Also,  China might be stalling on some thing or changing some of the agreement at the last minute to cause a stall,   since they think they can get a better deal with a Liberal White House.

Trump had an agreement he was strongly consolidering signing but China added and amended at the last minute which Teump rejected

Nah. China holds maybe 15% of US debt tops?

 

If China stopped buying US bonds what would happen is rates would simply have to rise a bit to attract the rest of the demand from more investors

 

Instead of the 2.6% to 2.7% range the US is paying now on 10 year bonds, it might rise to say 3% to attract more investors to fill the gap

 

The global bond market is worth many many trillions and is very competitive and yields rising even a few tenths of a percent attract much more demand

 

The US would be fine without China lending it money

 

Also China would likely invest in other debt instead stealing demand from someone else's debt. As a result investors that invest in debt that China rerouts it's money to could find themselves buying more US debt instead to fill the void in demand. The increase in interest rates would actually be very minimal

 

However what China could do is sell ALL it's US debt at once early (before maturity). That yes would cause a shock for a while in the US debt market and in Bond Markets around the world

 

However China would loose a lot of money selling so much debt early (many bonds have penalties if u sell them before the maturity date) so it's not in their best interest to do that

There's a few things China does when it comes to trade that are questionable and the US certainly isn't the first Country to complain about it. The EU for example has as well

 

If Trump sticked to those issues I'd understand

 

But he's going too deep and too far. This whole "America can win any trade War" is just hurting the US more than anyone tho some negative impacts spill over to everyone

Just look at the steel tariffs....

 

Canada imports $2 Billion a year more in steel from the US than the US does from Canada

 

Where's the rip off that Trump was talking about?

No one said they are any better as a government

It shouldn't be surprising that Trump is over pushing it with China tho because he does it with every country

 

The US has structural issues that cause trade deficits some of it due to self inflicted bad policies and he thinks the trade balance automatically tells u if a trade relationship is bad by it

 

Trade balances are affected by many things... But unless u had the absolute worst trade deals ever in every way, that alone would never cause $700 Billion trade deficits

 

It has more to do with huge Government deficits (putting a lot more money into economy than you tax out of it artificially boosts the wealth it has to purchase more imports beyond what its productive capacity would otherwise allow

 

Things like a huge military affect that too. Those millions of military personnel are stolen labor that gotta eat too and consume goods many of them imported but they do nothing industrially productive that can be sold

Actually Without the USA, China would be bankrupt as well. China loves to give the USA money, because the USA's economy consumes a lot of Chinese products. If the USA's economy falls, China and all of Europe will collapse.
