Has Pop music ever lost a young star?

We have lost young rockstars in the past. Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Buddy Holly, Kurt Corbain, etc.. In rap music, we also have lost young stars. From Tupac, Biggie, XXXTentacion, Mac Miller, etc.. So I was wondering, has there be any young pop star who we have lost in the past? I honestly thought we almost did with Demi Lovato although I’m not necessarily a fan. Thankfully, she survived.

Can't say they were "stars" but we lost Simone Battle (hung herself in 2014) and Christina Grimmie (shot in 2016) in the last five years.

Spoiler

Btw, I never heard of Buddy Holly and I would not know X and Mac Miller if they wouldn't died.

Mac Miller

Really?! I can understand X but Mac Miller was around since 2007. He dated Ariana too.

I don't know what your definition of pop is and if it counts if it's infused with other genres, but one of the most famous young deaths in pop was Selena, the Mexcian-American Latin pop star. She was murdered by her agent in 1995 when she was 23 and her story was put onto screen with Jennifer Lopez in the starring role. She was and still is, one of the Latin pop scene's most famous stars. Don't know if it has to be a solo star, but Stephen Gately from Boyzone died in 2009 at the age of 33 from a congenital heart defect, although Boyzone was starting to come to an end by that point.

I'm honestly surprised that there aren't many more young deaths in pop. The amount who end up troubled and depedent on drugs would suggest this would be much higher.

Aaliyah. Selena.

I love Selena, when I found out that Selena was a real person and not just a sad movie when I was about 12 (don’t judge I was naive and thought all movies were fake :cryga:) I dove into her songs and fell in love. While I never actually heard much of Aaliyah, she was stunning in Queen of the Damned and I bet she would be both a majorly talented actress and singer if she hadn’t have been in the plane crash

Tammi Terrell, best known for her duet with Marvin Gaye ("Ain't No Mountain High Enough"). She had 7 top 40 singles on the BB100. She died of a brain tumor at age 24 in 1970.

she was a very successful singer... and she married R Kelly when she was 15 but the marriage was annulled

Yes, this is what I was wondering too. Many pop stars have dealt with drug addiction and a lot fame. But we don’t really see many of them dying. Which of course is a good thing. I’m just surprised.
