Opinions on American Life?

Reject False Icons

Obviously a brilliant move from Madonna, she hated war, she was very critical about the US society, the government, show business, and even had an internal examination of her own person.

She was the one who didn't feel good about all the bulls**t in the world and she had the b*lls to be heard. :applause:Obviously the media painted her as anti-patriotic and boicotted her. But she was so clever that even a strong political controversy with her own home country couldn't tear her down and continued with an unbelievable success on her career, launching one of her best albums two years later.

It makes me appreciate how to make a political statement without looking like a impostor. I don't necessarily share the same views in these topics but she had a message of union and rebellion against oppression, a message that bands preached in the 70's during wars, and nowadays nobody in popular music seems to touch. One of things  why Madonna is such a legend :worship2:

It’s a really good album! Really underrated too but not her best. For me some of my favorite Madonna songs are on it like Hollywood, Love Profusion and Nothing Fails :flutter::sara::party:

I think its absolutely fantastic. Everything about it. The folktronica sound, the messages, the visuals.  Mirwais is a fantastic producer, I only hope they can replicate the magic of American Life and Music  on the upcoming album.

Love Profusion, Intervention, Nothing Fails and Easy Ride are absolute career highlights.

It does not work as a political record, but it’s actually a great introspective acoustic album.

It’s not perfect and the blend of folk and electronic sounds can be a bit jarring, but when it works it’s fantastic.

Second best, only behind Erotica. If you can’t tell, I like the eras where she doesn’t give a damn :vegas:

The way I sees it..,

Politically, it was ambitious album that went backfired on her.

Musically, it was an ambitious album that needs more polishing. She just had been doing music for James Bond which was universally hated by Bond's most avid fans, though doing pretty well on charts, peaking at #4. And then her first single for the new album singing about having 3 butlers and drinking soya doesn't help much either. After that, the rest of singles doing its best to keep it afloat.

These days, the way I sees it, fans, especially younger ones, would recognize the album as some kind of cult album. They way people did to Blackout. Underperformed, or unpopular with mainstream audiences, and often ironically enjoyed by some group of fans.

The best thing out from the era is the tour obviously.

Album had a few gems my favorites being Hollywood and nothing fails. I think this album was one of her more daring ones as she attacked American society directly which did not bode well for her. This caused a turning point in her career as being labelled anti-American. Conceptually I think it could have been great but it was poorly executed. The rapping in American Life kinda made me cringe tho especially the "I'm drinkin' a soy latte, I get a double shotte." It was interesting hearing Madge rap tho and I like how she was willing to go out of her comfort zone.
