Defmix100 6,613
I think for the most part it's done on purpose, her singing Shallow at the Oscars vs at the Grammys is the perfect example of singing the same song but in different styles, she made her voice darker at th Grammys which I personally don't love that much, she sounds a lot more open and 'nicer' sounding at the Oscars. However I do think with songs like Million Reasons, Joanne and Speechless I have prefered a lot of her live versions to the album version, especially Million Reasons and all the vocal additions she did throughout the live performance run
holy scheisse 22,495
Thats what I always loved about her. Especially during the fame days when her live performances had BETTER vocals than the recorded ones
Mr S 8,781
Most singers lower the key when they sing live. It's a way to preserve the voice. Beyonce, Mariah, Kelly, all do it. Maybe that is the difference you are noticing?
TheQueenLG 2,469
What you're talking about is vocal improvisation.

It "features" vocals from a British female rapper I think. I forgot her name though.

Cavadour 2,604
Shapeshift ? Voiceshift ? Well... Gaga is a master of change. Maybe just because she likes it ! Or because she constantly tries to recreate herself (no newsflash here ) Especially because (*John Wayne FASTER intro mode here*) doing the same thing all the time is a f***ing BORE ! Late to the party but I got a diamond heart
Guest Anisko
I think that's her way to make herself sound more mature ... It sounds good when she talks in interviews but tbh it's really really bad when she sing live with that "hybrid" voice. Her normal voice is extremely beautiful and i hope she understand this someday. latikofficial 829
There are so many things that come into play here. Adrenaline, crowd noises, preserving her voice for specific songs during shows, etc. I've noticed that during the last few songs before her acoustic parts of sets she relies on the backing track a little more and then when she does the acoustic numbers she sounds absolutely heavenly and sometimes better than the studio version uwu
monsieurRed 299
If you mean over time as in the ten years she’s been around, her voice has changed. She’s grown up and matured and her voice has changed with her. 🧚♀️

Kind of wish she would have added those vocal additions from live performances when she was recording the album. Would've given the song so much more dimension for listeners at home and on the radio.
