I just listened to all 3.  I found "Watch" the most enjoyable simply bc it was the most melodic but even then it doesn't grab me. Nothing about it is interesting :selena:

+ I generally dislike music with that fake indie girl voice but Billie makes it even worse by combining it with a selena gomez-esque whipser :air:  Idk just not for me

Fair enough, it's not for everyone. Also just wondering, I get the 'fake indie girl voice' thing but I don't see it in Billie, would you mind elaborating?

Can you explain how her musicality differs from Lorde's? I've not really listened to Billie, but from what you say she sounds like the same as Lorde, musically. That said, I love Lorde so it's no shade, I'm just curious for clarification and thank you for taking the time to write about this.

Many people make these comparisons, and thanks for doing so respectfully! I actually find their styles quite different. Billie's latest album is quite bass-heavy, which I don't think Lorde's is, and her first EP was quite guitar-driven. I can't really describe it very well but I'd say Lorde's sound is often a bit richer than Billie's, Billie's music is usually quite light even if it has a dark mood, if that makes any form of sense.

in my opinion, i dont think she will change the game, i think her styles have already been big for a long time now and soon the popular style will change.  the thing she (and her brother) did was mix all of the trendy styles of the last years and make a perfect blend.

what i DO think is that she will stay popular for a long time, she will not be a one era wonder, she will keep this minimalist pop trend revelant even after its time at #1 runs out. she is here to stay.

imo soon the people will demand a drastic change, and a new wave of stars will arise. but some of the current stars will stay, and one of them is billie.

I can totally see what you mean, actually. I could see that happening too. Although I admit I don't think I've heard many artists with a similar sound to her before, could you possible give me a few examples? Just because if there are similar artists, I'd love to hear them! :chica:

This thread is to discuss Billie and not 'mindlessly trash Billie and her fans', to quote myself. If you have an opinion on this, do share. If not, there's no need to say anything :spin:

So you'd say that Billie has something of a "sparse" sound? Because I agree, I have found that even Lorde's simpler work is very lush. She's minimal, but those specific elements are very rich so I wouldn't call her music "sparse".

Yes, that's exactly it! That's what I meant :tony:

by similar artists i mean artist who already had that angsty minimalist pop trap style, which im sure you know many of (lorde, lana, halsey, and the like). billie's specific style borrows a lot from those, but the way billie does it is unique to her.

also to further proof my point, see how millenials look back on their angsty, my chemical romance  emo-punk days with cringe and shame (but sometimes with nostalgia too)? gen z will look back on these billie eilish, sad boi trap days with cringe and shame, and in response we will go in a polar opposite direction with music. remember, we grew up during the club music boom, bopping to katy perry, black eyed peas, lady gaga, ke$ha with a dollar sing, call me maybe and other happy pop, in a short time gen z will be nostalgic about that period and make music like that to compensate on the angsty teenagehood we had.

well, theres a high chance you will lol, and dont get me wrong im a teen to, but im basing my point off how the older kids did it. after liking angsty, they cringed at angsty.

but do not panic, most people learn to not be ashamed of their teenage self eventually.

She's something new and fresh. People look at her and think she's weird.
Sound familiar?
Look, I don't wanna feed on these Gaga comparisons, so lemme make it more general.
Madonna caused outrage and shock, and she changed the industry.
Britney did the same.
Gaga shifted he sound of pop music, but not without causing contoversy and being different
I love Ava, but she's not the one doing something different, provocative, potentially gamechanging.
Billie is.
I've now heard a couple of her songs, but I've moreso observed her image and how people react to her.
She could be the next it girl.

Meh maybe I'm wrong but I don't see a real musician here. She's bold in her visuals but the music isn't exciting. It's not trendsetting, the minimalism thing she does is already trendy, trap is overdone, sad pop is already dominant. What's special about her? She reminds me of Melanie Martinez  :laughga:

What would you guys say is her best song and why? Not the video, just the music.

i'd love to know what you think is a real musician

chaeri pls

Being emo and spooky is gamechanging?
