Beyonce didn't show ANY support for the gays until 2013, but she's been active since 1997. The first 16 years of her career... aka the entire time the fight for marriage equality lasted... she was SILENT. What does my age have to do with literally anything? My point is that she has been silent for her entire career, on every issue. Beyonce has never been an activist like Gaga, or an outspoken political junkie (until recently with Beto, and like barely). She has always been discreet and private, and is always criticized for lacking emotion. Her actually speaking publicly about gay rights, in her own Beyonce way, really shouldn't be destroyed and dragged. Would you rather have said nothing for her entire career? Just because she didn't in the beginning? You also have to keep in mind what the world was like in 1997, her personal life included. Not many people were really piping up when it came to the LGBTQ community other than Madonna, Ellen and Will & Grace. Beyonce grew up in the church, and for the majority of her career, I'd argue up until 4, she was very controlled and poised and quiet. She only recently started putting out the work she wanted to, which is now seen as controversial in comparison, and really dedicated herself to her art. So yeah, she made some dumb comments, and didn't speak up on gay rights sooner than she should have. So what? She was also like 16, manipulated and controlled by the industry in order to sell an image of a sweet, country black girl with strong values and grace. There's this really ****ed up mentality that whatever you did when you were young, and mistakes from your past define who you are today. And that's just sad because people change. The world changes. You learn about issues that you thought perhaps didn't affect you, and educate yourself on how to make the world a better place. If you want to chastise her for her lack of vocalness on the issue, I guess that's your call. But newsflash, she has spoken out about LGBTQ rights. And she also isn't a gay person, making music for gay people. She actually owes us nothing, and what she has said and done for the community is more than acceptable imo. And that's my opinion on that.
Serial Chiller 8,044
1 hour ago, adammonroe said: Y'll are too damn annoying. Why do you all care so much if she's not really an ally? She's one of the most iconic and most important musical figures in history and she's supporting the LGBTQ community, she had a gay uncle that died from HIV, an uncle she loved, and her husband has a mother who's a lesbian, and they love her so much. Yet here you are complaining. Bey is not Gaga when it comes to LGBTQ issues, just like Gaga is not Bey when it comes to PoC issues, but I bet my ass you would be praising the **** out of the situation if Gaga would win an award like this one for her support towards black people. I don't know why y'all are ALWAYS looking for a reason to hate on Beyoncé, ever since she trully peaked, since she started getting all the recognition she deserves as a performer, most of y'all can't even hear her name without saying something negative about her, just like with every other artist that gers more succesful, relevant and impactful than Gaga. This site really is toxic AF and it saddens me how instead of celebrating the fact that high profile icon is being awarded with a LGBTQ award some of you are turning all of this into something negative. And you're just delulu if you think Gaga isn't going to be dragged to the depths of hell if she wins something for PoC rights. The "reasons" you list for Beyonce an Jay Z's "involvement" in LGBT issues aren't even in their control. I'm an LGBT advocate if my mother is a lesbian? Gaga is in the best place in her career right now so enough with this "yall are just jealous other stars are more succesful and relevant" As if. When there's an LGBTQ+ award and Beyonce wins over Gaga, then we call bullsh*t on that.

I actually doubt that it would be the case. Folks are often throwing nice playful shades to gaga so if she would get this type of awards I'm sure GGD members would surely be like "Well not sure if she deserves it but still good for the good sis lmao" and laughing at it. Maybe that's just me.

FentyGa 14,340
They looked great, and I'm glad Shangie got that recognition. That said, I think there are many other people who deserve the award more. 7 hours ago, Borislshere said: This award is for LGBT Allies, Gaga Is a bisexual woman. Yes but Demi isn’t open about her sexuality at that time when she’s getting awarded while Gaga has mentioned several time that she loves both women and men. So yes it’s unlikely she will get this award as she’s not an ally but a LGBT icon. diana’s advocate
