Robo Ga 15,314
Exactly what happened between Gaga and Kendrick Lamar. What is our collective best-guess about their relationship and how it all played out? All I really remember was they were going to collab, something happened and they didn't, and Gaga has alluded to her music being "too gay" for certain rappers etc. On Kendrick's side I remember something about the label not wanting Gaga on good kid mad city. Can someone fill me in? I'm curious and can't find any info Also would anyone be here for a collab b/t them in the future? Because I 100% would be (delusional I know) 🤖⚡️
Zander 14,911
From what I heard it was down to timing(?) issues and couldn't get Gaga's part on the song before the deadline. Technically they did collab... and this was the original which was tweeted after the album release.

Seeka 12,372
It wasn't that Gaga and Kendrick had a bad relationship. It was Gaga and his director's/producers. While there were timing issues on Gaga's side, Gaga absolutely despised what they were doing to her voice, and when you hate what someone is doing, you're not going to get back quickly to them. Chris Evans 8,917
for "b*tch don't kill my vibe" they weren't able to meet the deadline for the collab and for PARTYNAUSEOUS Kendrick's team thought the song was "too gay" so they reworked it and she didn't want to release it that's why there's two versions of the song: the one that leaked from kendrick's camp and the one Gaga played at the artRave
LilyLark 10,122
No drama, just typical songs not being added/scrapped/etc. Gaga tweeted the music out herself, and Kendrick said something nice about her and referenced their song together at some point a few years ago. I know Kendrick for sure straight up said the timing just didn't work out for Bitch Don't Kill my Vibe! because they had to go back in and tweak it and couldn't fit that redo under the deadline, and also said nice things about her. Gaga tweeted it out too, and basically indicated the same thing. The Partynauseous thing was confusing. I don't think anyone every said what happened besides Gaga alluding that the producers just wanted a different sound, but some people say that his producers thought the song was "too gay" and it wasn't just that they thought it was too pop. But even then, that sort of thing isn't uncommon for people to scrap projects because they disagree on the sound and it was between his producers, not Kendrick and Gaga. Could have been a million things, tbh, but considering Kendrick has said nice things and Gaga tweeted a song out they seem fine personally and Kendrick later leaked a song himself...they seem cool. TBH I feel like sometimes fans create drama over scrapped projects when there is none (like the whole Cher/Gaga thing). Beyonce supposedly did over 300 songs for Lemonade before narrowing it down to what, 18, and scrapped a ton of collaborations. I know Adele scrapped several collaborations, too. I feel like she regretted even spilling the tea (even if was vague and mild and could have been about Kanye, as some speculated), because she never said another word about it. AJRocketMan 2,684
It was creative differences and an image/culture clash. Apparently, Gaga and her music are too "white" and too "gay" and too "feminine" and too "weird" for rap music, as these are things I've heard from hip hop heads way too often over the years. Kendrick is supposed to be "gritty" and "street" and "tough" (as if Gaga isn't... ) and apparently that didn't work with Gaga's image. I think would have totally worked well together! If they have chemistry then any combination or collaboration could work. It's not like it was a collab between Gaga and Lana Del Rey or something... Gaga also mentioned creative differences between her and his team (and possibly Kendrick himself as well) for the collab not working out and she leaked her version of "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe" on twitter and YouTube. The Kendrick version of Partynauseous leaked in May of 2015—almost three freaking years after it was recorded (which was in July of 2012 I think). Sadly, many Kendrick fans don't even know that he was supposed to work with Gaga. Now we have a version of BDKMV that sounds robotic and lacks the soul of the original intended version. Gaga worked with Wale, T.I., Too Short, and Twista, so I don't know why you think she wouldn't want to work with him because of her image. It was the other way around, and he only worked with one pop star when he was more established and seemed to regret it (re Taylor). She definitely wanted to work with Kendrick on Partynauseous, but his team allegedly didn't want him to do such a pop-ish song at the time when he was still breaking out on the scene—this was before he was super established. But disagreeing on sound isn't that unusal. Perhaps some people on online boards think it was a image issue about him not wanting to work with her, but the Bitch Don't Kill my Vibe was about timing (I believe him, why mention it at all to lie about it) and Partynauseous was just her and his producers disagreeing about the sound. Not everything is some big drama—collaborations get scrapped all the times for those type of reasons. Considering both Gaga and Kendrick leaked the music, and Gaga made it clear she liked him but it was her producers she disagreed with...and he said something nice about her too...they seem cool. Not everything is some big drama. I wasn't talking about Gaga herself. I knew she worked with those guys. It's the rap music fans that don't like her. I've always wondered by Gaga and Taylor have very few black fans in proportion to their white and Latino fanbases. Even Katy Perry and Britney Spears have a higher ratio of black fans. Sis you just made it sound like it was some drama/Gaga herself tho with all the bit about image/culture bit not working for her instead of it just some randoms on message boards, when it was Kendrick's team—and Gaga and Kendrick both released the music, unfinished, and said something nice about the other. I'm not claiming their besties or even friends, but there is clearly no bad blood between them. Kendrick himself also made it clear it was timing. Gaga and his producers disagreeing on the sound, possibly because it was too poppy/ or "gay" as rumored, doesn't equal some clash between Kendrick and Gaga themselves or even drama in general. It's not atypical for people to disagree on sound. And I think that's a vast generalization/assumption about Katy, Britney, Gaga, and Taylor's fanbases. Twitter/message boards don't equal reality. Yes, of course their fanbases tend to be more white compared to hip-hop/rap/r & b artists or even Beyonce or RIhanna —especially Taylor as she used to be more country. But there's no way to tell which popgirl has more Black fans, and it's a weird thing to measure/think about anyway.

I think his producers hesitated for him to do pure pop and Gaga's gay friendly image probably didn't factor in as much as the pop sound, especially as Gaga wasn't at the top of her game at that time, and his producers and Gaga disagreed on the direction of the sound so they walked. But two years later, when he was established, I think they were ready for him to do radio friendly standard pop...especially as Taylor was at the top of her game right then. But Kendrick's never done another pure pop collaboration again, which defn. makes me believe that it's his producers that hesitate about him doing pop collaborations due to the sound.
