7th case of HIV+ despite taking PrEP reported in Australia

I used to wrestle with how problematic people's sexual lives can be in the age of technology and PrEp.  Until I got on PrEp, I didn't know what peace of mind felt like.  I know it isn't 100% effective and that other precautions need to be taken.  However, for those that do not take those extra steps, I realized, who am I to judge?  I do wish them well and the health of others' well, however it is a waste of my time to be caught up in assessing others' decisions -- even when there is evidence at their fingertips (cell phones/Google/etc). 

My Dr. told me that the rates of HIV infections are now lowered but the rates of other STI's have started to climb due to folks feeling "invincible."  Honestly, it makes sense to a degree. And, as much as I've had a bone to pick with the gay male community and its hypersexualization, at least many are waking to to progressive sexual healthcare and routine check-ups in the age of reverting to the "demon haunted world" and 45's administration and anti-lgbtq sentiments.

Not just trying to find silver-linings but also trying to age without being a judgmental asshole (not implying anyone on his thread is!).   I'm nearly 30 and have wasted too much time/energy on assessing society and others' decisions, which are our of our control, to a degree (vote, still have philosophical convos about life, reflect, etc.).

Yeah in the states doctors make mention of wearing a condom due to PrEP’s relatively limited scope as a drug. Condoms can help prevent the spread of others diseases and STIs.

PrEP is for HIV prevention, but there are many other things you can catch.

Lmao this has nothing to do with the facts but if I were single, yes I would be using both because I know that PrEP is only 92-99% effective & doesn’t protect you completely from HIV & neither do condoms. Those are the facts & doctors, including the people who made the pill, have always stressed that you should also still be using a condom. It’s your choice if you don’t wanna use both but there is no arguing whether PrEP is 100% effective. This is literally like talking to a Trump supporter, you have the same exact logic I swear.

PrEP is for HIV prevention, but there are many other things you can catch. 

Nothing is wrong with it. I just don’t like the attitude people here have on Prep users who don’t use condoms.

PrEP is important, and I’m an advocate for it... I am skeptical of the on-demand method however... which is how this guy was taking it when he got HIV. 

I know there have been studies, but I feel much safer just taking it everyday.

You are though and it sounds like you're trying to convince yourself more than anything that it's okay to not practice safe sex. If that's your thing fine, but I think it's irresponsible to encourage people to not use condoms and treat prep as ironclad cure-all solution.

lol now you're imagining things. i havent encouraged anybody to do anything,  i was simply saying that things are handled differently overseas. honestly i was rather shocked how people on here were shaming this guy for a perfectly sane decision he made. just read the comments on the first and second page. thats horrible. you cannot expect everybody in this world to like condoms and shame them when they dont - im telling you, real life is not how you guys picture it to be. thankfully, we now have a very safe and reliable method to prevent hiv infection that isnt a barrier method. as an adult he made the decision to go for this method and its just downright cruel to judge him for his decision when he just received these horrible news. if he was using condoms and got infected, you guys wouldnt make all these slut shaming comments.
