ARTPOP is the epitome of what GaGa is all about!

Every instrumental on that album is bought from some random artist and she just wrote lyrics over it. How can you say this is her best work? I don’t agree and I don’t think it represents everything she is.

It’s good album and all this overrated mess is killing it for me. It’s not revolutionary like some of you say. It’s beautiful pop record but that’s it.

No ARTPOP is the most confusing thing ever. ARTPOP could mean anything was basically to cover up that it had no theme or meaning behind it.
Maybe Gaga bought into her own hype too much, got distracted and made music which she thought she wanted to create and her fans wanted to listen to. Both assumptions were wrong.

In fact every other album except this one represents the true GaGa

ARTPOP was a phase

sis every album is a phase.

Music wise ARTPOP is the last album I’d identify her with. She was severely messed up at the time, which she’s admitted, a lot of the instrumentals weren’t even made for her, and she’s stressed how hard it was for her to just be real while not writing at the piano for most of the songs. I think the only songs I can appreciate fully as genuine Gaga song are Gypsy and Dope. I’m not saying I hate the album, and I don’t think it’s her worst collection of works, but it definitely not her most genuine. I’d give that award to BTW.

I kind of feel like she created ARTPOP with the feeling in mind that she would never have that truly #1 hit pop-culture moment album again. Just because that’s what happens after the first few albums with most even really big artists. So that was her chance to create her signature 1000% Gaga album. If you put everything Gaga neatly into 15 songs, it would be ARTPOP. Maybe didn’t work out completely because of management, but still iconic nonetheless.

I dont think we'll ever get a Gaga concert as raw, exciting, and energizing as the ARTPOP premier at the iTunes fest. Between that and album premiere night, listening to the album for the first time (absent of critic reviews or people's opinion), it was and is literally everything I ever wanted from Gaga. It IS Gaga.  I will stan ARTPOP til I die! jsMqgH7.gif

Oh God help us if this is a common thought.

It wasnt fresh or revolutionary. It came out with the sound of the year before which was already dying away fast and used copious samples or even bought instrumentals from other artists (aka MJH).

She didn't combine ART and POP like she said she would. She was forced to make a mediocre, dated EDM record and dressed up as Venus a few times and used Jeff's blue ball a few times to compensate. So it wasn't successful in fullfilling in its goal either.

It wasn't and isn't "underrated" - its just a mess as a whole. Majority of this fandom idolizes ARTPOP to no end and I swear that it's because the other 20% of us tell it like it is, so it's become the trendy album to love because it's "underrated". These fans are also the people who usually hate on C2C, but I hate to break it to you - if it wasn't for Tony and this record, "Lady Gaga" would have died during or at the end of this album's cycle if she even made it that far.  No future success. No comeback. No acting. No smash-hit movie. No awards. No Oscar.

I think the ARTPOP era gave us so many great moments where we do not appreciate them enough. Her Swine performance at SXSW was straight up genius, for example. The public could not get past the vomit and thus, the message of the song and performance was lost. The reason why there was vomit there was to show that the song is about a disgusting time in her life, the time she got raped. She wanted people to know that it was gross and using vomit in this piece was meant to signify this. BUT NO... the GP just saw her being crazy and dismissed the performance for it's a deeper meaning.

Sure, there are parts to the ARTPOP era that are truly messy and confusing but there was still an overall aesthetic and the themes of LOVE, FAME, SEX, and FASHION were evident everywhere. ARTPOP was Lady Gaga showing the public a mirror of herself to them. What they thought of her was projected back to them and it was almost like she was parodying herself.

I agree a 100%, but this is like the 666th ARTPOP Appreciation thread :wtfga:  . Can we just all agree that ARTPOP is an underrated masterpiece and move on to her little sister called LG6?

Ok, I can see where you are coming from. She could’ve used fresh material and have been more straight forward with its theme and meaning, instead of saying it has no meaning. Yes, she could’ve been more consistent with its message and concept. But I have to say this,  The point of this thread was that I was saying that ARTPOP symbolizes Gaga in many ways. Sure it wasn’t fresh or revolutionary, sound wise (which I agree with) but it does indeed showcase what she’s all about. She’s been talking about “ARTPOP” since her debut. ARTPOP had many things that she was talking about in the Fame Era like Pop Music with songs about Love, Sex Fame with catchy & melodies that get your attention and try and make a statement. It also had the creative, wild & crazy side to it that she’s known for. So my point is even though it want at all what it was hyped up to be, it’s concept, sound and intent was what Gaga has had since the beginning. Also not to mention it was also a tribute and celebration of her career.

Hope that clarifies it a little!

-Also btw I love CTC and it was indeed a smart move to make after ARTPOP, as it did save her. So yes agreed-

YESSS ME TOO!

ARTPOP is the peak of Gaga’s existence. It served in vocals, craziness, lyrics, fashion, visuals. IT WAS AMAZING

Majority of the production in ARTPOP came from DJ White Shadow, Zedd and Madeon.

They were not random people and Gaga loved them very much. She didn't just go instrumental shopping. Gaga's too much of an artist to do that with her work. She collaborates.

Also there is a song that Gaga produced! My fave which is Venus. :flutter:

Madeon just co-produced, so take what you want with that info.

I just want to let you know that I totally respect your opinion on ARTPOP. It may not be revolutionary in your eyes but Gaga definitely put some love into the record.

I understand what you mean but literally 90% of those instrumentals were bought from unknown artist. - research it.  Just because they produced it doesn’t mean those are their instrumentals.. They changed it up a bit but Gaga wrote songs for already existing instrumentals.. Venus is amazing tho. I’m not saying she didn’t put love into it - ofc she did. She puts it in every single thing she does. ARTPOP is beautiful but it’s not revolutionary or the best thing she ever did. Fans overrated it.
