Ava Max - So Am I

I love how extra she is with her facial expressions. She's so gifable. :huntyga:

She seems like a really nice girl and she's talented but her lyrics can be a little too basic. I really hope she's fine with haters, because she seems like an easy target.

Sounds more like this and Sweet But Psycho especially the first verse.

You're right about BTWInterviewGa but she did not do this during TF(M) and I think it's better to compare their debuts than to compare Ava to Gaga years into her career.

In fact, Gaga clearly changed up her persona because she had already attracted an audience that identified itself as "weird" and "different" but not because she had actively tried to attract them with "freak anthems". That makes an important difference for me.

Anyway, I'll stop about it now. I'm glad you're enjoying her. I still think SBP is one of the best pop songs we've heard the last couple of years but this is just a big drop in quality to me, and for it to be another Glee-ish outcast rally song is just extra disappointing. But that's just one opinion ofc.

I agree with this.

TF/TFM eras will be looked down as legendary on how to build a ferocious fanbase, grab the media's attention non-stop, and be hugely successful commercially (among the gp).

Those were the days really. Ava is not comparable.

Disappointed to find that it's basically a copy and paste of Sweet But Psycho. I've heard many singers who re-created their big hit on their second single but this is on a whole new level. But bear in mind that her label probably forced this on her. Labels are so afraid to take a risk now so that if a new star creates one hit, they tell them to remake it to guarantee a second hit to launch the album. It's just how it works. It's a retread of the misfit theme and quite a sanitised take on it but I'm getting into it a bit more. I just find the beat a bit...childish, like it was made for kids to sing. I feel the chorus needs work but I love the second verse, where it becomes a bit more feisty and grown up and the last bridge. I also don't feel that she needs to emphasis that she's different "under all of this" because she already looked different from the beginning with her asymmetric hairstyle and taking on the role of a psycho for her debut single. She's trying a bit too hard to be seen as unusual because she clearly wants that misunderstood outcast fanbase. I'm still holding out hope that the rest of the album will be better but this is at least ok. It could be so much worse.

You should be grateful because she's one of the few releasing true original pop and not that trashy trappy music:vegas: It's not that serious damn ma

Song is okay but that’s it. Video reminds me of that youtube series “pop star high” where ironically Gaga is the main character. ALSO I can’t believe some of you are fighting over this and are insulted by it.. Just chill and enjoy the music if you like it and leave if you don’t..

Don't be a jerk with new artists. You are allowed to dislike Ava Max or any other, but please don't do what others did to Gaga on her first years. Support pop girls, we are all in the same war against dudebro music.

There’s nothing objectively bad about it (except for rhyming “outcast” with “format” :laughga:) and it’s super catchy BUT the production is so wildly similar to SBP and the kick rhythm is almost exactly the same and the like chorus intro again is... suspicious. I imagine they released SBP, saw how successful it was, and released something similar.

BUT I’m happy to see a female artist breaking off from a lot of the pop trends and also actually having choreography for DANCE pop. Do we stan? No, but I’m paying attention for now :trollga:
