Boys need male role models growing up and same with girls. I can see where he's coming from, it's a real issue any same-sex couple will encounter.

I think I have a slightly different issue with his statement than most on here - he compares love from both genders to vital nutrients, but... what the f*ck is he basing his belief on? Can he cite any sources or something? Cuz to me it just sounds like the same regurgitated bs straight people have been mindlessly repeating in an effort to undermine gay parents for ages...

I don't care how he 'clarified' that 'maternal love' doesn't have to come from a mother and so forth - people will largely take that statement as an invalidation of same-sex parents, his little quip at the end definitely didn't help disperse that, and... feel free to correct me, but as far as I know, no study has revealed having gay parents creates problems for the child, in fact, wasn't there a study that found children of gay couples to be healthier and more stable mentally?

And my quarrel with him comparing this to vitamins and nutrients is that so often I see people try and indirectly (or sometimes directly) use science or scientificy language to make their argument SOUND valid but... it isn't... F*ck off, Terry, you don't know sh*t... Like, plenty of healthy people come from single parents and same-sex parents, why is this still being discussed?

Pretty sure “doesn’t matter where that love comes from” means it doesn’t have to come from one of the parents???? But i mean go off i guess lol

Is it ? My father died when I was young and I turned out just fine.

Some fathers teach their children to not cry to not talk about their feelings, to man up, etc. Same would go for mothers. Biological parents aren't always the best tbh

What is maternal love and what is paternal love? What can't a man do that a woman can, and vice versa? What can a woman give to a child that a man can't?

A male role model will provide children with a man to look up to, and a female role model will provide children with a woman to look up to. It's really pretty simple. And yes, there are differences.

If a child was socialised only by men or only by women, the child would find it confusing to be thrown into an environment (any public environment) where both men and women co-exist.

Of course, a child would never not have interactions from both genders - which I made clear in my earlier post that people seem to be ignoring lol.

To reiterate that post: same sex parents are obviously just as valid as opposite sex parents - but it would be important for the child to have role models of both genders, which they inevitably would; which, yes, renders Terry's argument kind of pointless... which again I have already said.

A male role model and a female role model can be someone else than your parent??

And no child, unless they are captive in a basement, is going to go through life while only interacting with only men or women. This is all just such nonsense...

He isn't saying that only straight couples can have children. He made it clear that the paternal and maternal love can come from anywhere - from aunties, from uncles, from family friends.

Umm that's literally what I said, lol - and it's what you disputed in your response, questioning the need for role models of the opposite sex. But sure, go off at me :)

I mean I semi see where he's coming from. I grew up barely knowing who my dad was and ended up with slight daddy issues but there are tons of people who grow up without that father or mother figure and turn out fine. Like my life is going on regardless of what my dad does, I was raised by extremely strong women and I'm fine.

I still respect what he's doing with Male sexual assault victims and sexual assault victims in general but I think this way of thinking is a bit outdated.

He should worry about his own community first....

also shame. After his backlash from speaking out about sexual assault I was really cheering for him.

Just trying to argue his anti-gay parent bs is stupid. 🙄

Knife

Children of same-sex parents don't live in a bubble where they are only exposed to and interact with one gender all their lives.

I keep being made aware of what this man is saying, and more often than not it's some B.S. :triggered:

I miss living in an age where we could respect each other’s beliefs and not take offense to 280 characters written on a phone and tweeted out.

He didn’t commit a crime, he said what he thinks. He can think it, you may educate him. You don’t need to judge his entire character and being for this.

Good lord, the internet. What ISN’T problematic in 2019?

You know what I find problematic? People who waste their time finding loopholes to call each other problematic and just be offended at something, that most often than not has nothing to do with them or at the very least not directed at them.

Moving along...
