The population in Manitoba especially northern Manitoba is very low and there's very little infrastructure up there or people to run a new or bigger port so that would have to be taken care of

 

Also there's 2 possible target markets for the Oil. Asia or Europe

 

BC Coast would be more ideal for Asia while Energy East would have been more idea for Europe

 

Hudson's Bay would be farther from both

 

Also ice in the coldest winters could be an issue too. They'd have to hire ice breakers adding to the cost of shipping. The East and West coast don't have that issue

 

It wouldn't be a totally impossible feat but in many aspects just isn't practice

As for how Manitoba feels about it, they rarely seen to matter in National debates maybe because their population is so small. When energy east was gonna be a thing they didn't try to block it in their land as far as I'm aware

 

I guess it's just harder for the landlocked provinces (Saskatchawen and Alberta I think?) so it's a real difficult issue

I've loved discussing this by the way! I'm a teenager from the UK so I never really have conversations like this in real life since most of my friends would rather discuss FIFA or girls

And yeah Alberta and Saskatchewan are the richest Provinces and they have the most resources 

 

Canada has the 3rd most Oil in the world and Alberta has 97% of it! Alberta also has a lot of Coal and Natural Gas

 

Saskatchewan has most of the other 3% of Oil (still a significant amount), and they have a lot of Potash and Uranium reserves

 

Their Wealth helps fund Canada's spending and Revenue but then some Provinces that receive financial help end up slamming their industry and offer no support so I do get why their mad. Because they are landlocked it's complicated, they need other provinces to co-operate to actually get their products to the coast to ship it out

 

Grains like wheat and Canola are also huge in those two provinces

 

Their economies are extremely simmilar. They are also Canada's most conservative Provinces. 

 

Alberta and Saskatchewan work well together and get along well with eachother. If they ever seperated the two of them would probably combine to make 1 Nation

The two sound extremely important to Canada's economy, if they left surely it would hit the economy badly?

Also, it may sound irrelevant, but are the Atlantic provinces in favour of a pipeline or not? It seems like the use of a pipeline could reduce traffic on the St Lawrence if it reached somewhere like New Brunswick or Nova Scotia

It would impact big time but as of right now there's no major movement for seperation anywhere. Even in Quebec as of late no major news on that front

 

Not sure it would affect st Laurence traffic much cuz as far as I know little to no oil is making it from Alberta to that area anyway

 

And Atlantic Provinces haven't been too vocal about it. They would benefit since they have refineries that's for sure

 

The biggest Opposers are British Columbia and Quebec and the biggest supporters are obviously Alberta and Saskatchewan

 

The rest of Canada is more neutral with some supporting the pipelines and some not

 

Overall more Canadians in total are for it than against it but the ones against it are more vocal about it and fight harder

 

Alberta had the highest public support rate for Pipelines like 82% while BC and Quebec last poll I saw was just under 50%

 

But in Quebec and BCs case it's not just lower public support, it's that the Governments themselves were against the pipelines 

 

The Federal Government wants at least one built but to not upset any voters in any region, Trudeau hasn't forced his hand too hard

 

The Federal Government bought the project for $4.5 Billion but is waiting on a new review forced by the courts before starting constriction rather than forcing legislation
