Carly was ubiquitous with Call Me Maybe, and had a minor but forgotten hit with Owl City (Good Time), but in the end she didn’t have enough presence in the pop culture world to sustain her success. Katy was only relevant during the first half of the year and then she went into hiatus. Nobody talked about her during the second half. Rihanna, however, was MASSIVE. This was definitely her year. Her single choices, her music videos, her performances, and even video recordings of her concerts were getting worldwide attention (such as when she wacked that dude with her golden mic after he wouldn’t let go of her).
