I love INLA But I don't see it being a ballad worldwide anthem like an Adele song

Judas literally was the reason why people were trying to ban her tour in the Philippines, Indonesia, etc. :laughga: It had a huge effect on her image. Staunch Christians still hold this against her. Play Gaga at a highly Catholic environment, judgement will be nigh :derpga:

As for Shallow, I get your opposition. Thanks for being respectful :kara:

Thank you.

But the thing is...people still talk about the Like a Prayer fiasco. When was the last time you heard the world speak of Judas?

Dont get me wrong...I LOVE Judas. I just think the controversy was hyped up by the fans to act as if they endured something when most people never even blinked at it.  No Christian's think of it  lol.  Sadly it just didnt make that much of an impact.

I never understood the video being confusing tho.  I love it.  Lol

Just my opinion if it.

Great insight! Thanks for supplementing the parts I'm lacking. I also heard about Aura being picked by Gaga as the lead single, but I also heard she wanted Sexxx Dreams to be the lead of ARTPOP; so, at this point, I'm like Gaga what? :laughga:

ARTPOP really was an explosion. Management, the team, the visuals; all a disarray. In a way, I'm thankful for this era because this was when Gaga found her artistry: the most primal artistry that's left hidden in the deepest parts of her. I doubt we would even be getting ASIB without ARTPOP's demise (Bradley would never see Gaga doing jazz because Gaga wouldn't do jazz if ARTPOP were a success).

Too bad we never got Venus. Back then, I was all for switching to DWUW. But looking back, Venus could have been a pop MOMENT. Gosh, I'm so proud of her.

It's funny u mention that about ARTPOP and jazz and I agree

If ARTPOP hadn't been such a mess in its execution perhaps her success streak would of kept going longer and the era more successful...

But in a way I think ARTPOPs failures forced her to go a new direction such as the jazz era to help clean up her image and earn respect

I think that low point of ARTPOP forced Gaga to go new directions that solidified her as a respected artist and actually added to her longevity

Without ARTPOPs failures maybe she woulda just kept releasing similar pop albums and eventually die off

It's hard to say for sure what would of happened, but I do think ARTPOPs failure was bad in the moment but actually led to more long term gain

PS: I really don't see how Venus would be a hit... A lot of fans believe it would but it doesn't sound like something the GP would of liked at all to me

I wish I had a "failure" like ARTPOP, a double platinum worldwide album that many hardcore fans love.

The tour was also a hit.  This wasnt her WITNESS lol

Just my opinion if it.

Like a prayer was a bigger hit than Judas tho hence the lasting impact. Also tbh like a prayer sounds more artistic than Judas. Judas was an EDM almost dubstep banger that to people didn't sound artistic at all so it was just pure controversy unlike like a prayer that had positive reviews too

I do think it set her up for a bit of failure tbh. It damaged her momentum during btw

Also about MTN... I think as a lead it had a lot of potential... It was a very heavy song... If it caught on (which it had a better shot of doing as a lead) I think the song woulda really stood out and been huge

I think commercially speaking it had the potential to outdo born this way although from a message standpoint, btw got a lot of media attention for what it stood for that marry The night wouldn't of gotten

TEOG I think could of been huge as a lead as well and a safer bet than MTN. I think MTN would be a hit or miss. It would either catch on and be huge on it wouldn't catch on and would flop... TEOG I think would of been a guaranteed smash

The songs on BTW are classic but heavy sounding and I'm not sure what exactly would have hit or not when considering first single.

Marry The Night is possibly my fave Gaga song but I am not at all sure how it would have worked as first single. The video is AMAZING!  I think it's very possible the singles chosen were the right ones at the right time.  Anything released as 5th single at that point would have failed only due to too much saturation of the market. It was too much too soon. The world needed a Gaga break.  But we push her and she is always working. Lol

She is in a much better place now tho.

That's the thing, I'm not sure either... If feel like it either would really catch on, or it would of flopped miserably... It would be a risk

I kind of see MTN like Bad Romance...

Bad Romance was not the typical sounding pop song of 2009/2010 at all and it was also a very heavy and unique sound. When it first came out I questioned whether it would catch on or not

But bad romance ended up paying off. It did catch on and its unique sound made it stand out and is now very arguably her most iconic and successful single to date (tho by some commercial measures Poker Face was bigger but it certainly didn't have the lasting iconic impact Bad Romance has had)

MTN was a similar situation I think. It could have seriously stood out and been iconic if it caught on but it had the risk of failure due to its different sound

As a 5th single when Gaga was overexposed, a song with that different a sound had no chance of smashing so I'm not surprised it flopped

It did manage to peak at #11 here in Canada tho. I remember getting pissed that it missed the top 10 by 1 rank :rip:

If it had been just 1 spot higher, Gaga would of gotten the record here in Canada for most consecutive top 10s because both applause and DWUW went top 10 here too (#4 and #3)

it would have been 14 consecutive top 10s

You and I and Judas were the results of greed from her label, they wanted to drag the album out as long as possible.

Receipts? I kinda believe you but I think Gaga wanted a lot of singles

Summer Boy

I agree with everything that you said but the I'll Never Love Again would have been bigger than Shallow part. Shallow was the right lead single, it's a very Gagaesque song and it's her biggest WW hit since Born This Way. I'll Never Love Again is a really good song but it's very cliché and you can clearly see they tried to get her a "I Will Always Love You" or a "My Heart Will Go On" moment, which could have worked in the 90's but not in 2018 / 2019. I'll Never Love Again could have been sung by anybody (with great vocals of course) while Shallow is a GAGA song, only her could pull it off, that's why it will become a classic, it's a unique song.

But I definitely agree with the rest of your thread.

They didn't actually. Shallow was gonna be a cute promo but they deceived themselves into thinking that INLA might be bigger because it's got that sad love story I Will Always Love You and My Heart Will Go On like story. They sent it to radio first and tried to make it happen. Shallow being released a week before the movie was a last minute decision they said.

GP wanted Shallow. So they instead moved on to Shallow as the main single after the immense success that came on digital and streaming. It was sent to radio for impact 2 weeks after its release.

Imagine if Shallow hadn't been released before the movie and so it wasn't eligible for Grammys. :messga: The meltdowns. :vegas:

? INLA was never sent to radio.

I'm 99% sure INLA was meant to be a single but I'm also sure that Shallow was always meant to be a smash. It was the first track we've heard from the album and it gained a lot of hype. It probably did better than Gaga's team expected so they pushed it for a longer time though.

You are right. And it's a shame, that Gaga released such a shítty musicvideo, like Perfect Illusion and the worst...( My favourite Gaga song, that's why I was angry a bit)... Million Reasons. The same person did Bad Romance, Alejandro, Telephone, Judas, You and I and Applause music videos... What happend with her taste? hope lg6 will serve a born this way level music video collection. :icega:
