Because it's more a case of viral/meme video than actually a big hit that people request on the radio, let's see compare to it's sales actually.

I don't want to get to the point that a funny of a person says "banana" will be #1 while songs that many people worked on for months will barely enter top 10..

@DiscoHeaven23 do you have the sales and chart positions of Friday? :laughga:

But that's the sign of times, right? People don't request songs on the radio as they used to. Radios used to have the power, and they probably filtered a lot of these "joke tracks", because people didn't have access to streaming, where they don't need to ask for the song or listen to what the radio gives them. We can't ignore that. If that means having a Friday or a What Does the Fox say #1 for months, well it's right now the fairest...

Anyway, we haven't seen any "dumb" songs charting that high, and streaming has been a valuable thing for a while now. It won't be that dramatic.

It could make a negative reality for example a song that everyone laughs at and it's actually a horrible song.

Like let's take Friday - Rebecca Black, with this rule, this song would be #1 for a few weeks in a row and at  top 10 for months, but not because it's the most popular song, but because it became a joke, the majority didn't like it actually.

youtube streams have been counted for songs chart (billboard hot 100) since February 2013. (reason Harlem Shake went #1)

Unfotunately, this is how it is.

Music listeners are now turning to online music sharing platforms. Like, remember the time we used to wait in front of the TV for a song/video to debut on MTV? Those times are gone now.

I just dunno how to feel about this. I know that horrendous music can go viral and garner millions of views daily on YouTube and obtain an undeserved high spot on the charts.

In my messy era.

I have yet to understand how watching one video equals streaming, or best, purchasing a whole bloody album. What do charts even mean anymore tbh.

Oh god no!

Quality over Quality, PLEASE!

Count in the things that have value - things that people buy, not stream for free!

It’s a measure of legal music consumption, so it’s completely viable to use YouTube.

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

I thought this was already the case lmao.

This is about the ALBUMS chart aka the Billboard 200, not the SONGS chart, the Hot 100. ;)

YouTube have a Music Streaming App now though don’t they? I could understand them taking data from that for the charts, but unpaid streams from the main YouTube site I think could be damaging

yeah I know lol
I just thought this was the obvious thing to do since this is a huge part of how people consume music
