When it comes to digital platforms there’s no such thing as payola. There are pitches made by the labels/independent artists, most of them happen when: 1) the platform gets support from the artist (Gaga posting a link to a platform) 2) the project gets a good organic performance. In this case, Gaga got great placement since day 1 thanks to an amazing pitch done by her label. And most likely is getting new support by both platforms thanks to a new one. So stop this payola non-sense, we’re living on the age of data and transparency. The platforms wouldn’t risk becoming the label’s money puppets.
