Even though this might be wrong in many ways, I actually love the concept. It doesn't look offensive at all. Getting a friend and dress up as a KKK and a black man hanging out together? Powerful concept. He should have an actual black friend to hang out with though.

 

(plus, it was 1984. Come on, so many things were different back then. Not so many people expressed how insulted they felt, social issues were not perceived as they are today. Let's not blame people for something they did decades ago when there were no social justice warriors to show the world how wrong that was)

Virginia Constitution: "In the case of the removal of the Governor from office or in the case of his disqualification, death, or resignation, the Lieutenant Governor shall become Governor."

Meaning, should Ralph Northam resign, Justin Fairfax would be VA's Governor.

Blackface has been known to be extremely offensive, so has the KKK.

this is so insane to read honestly. people expressed how upset they were about things back then..  there was just no social media. this is the most like lukewarm take I have read this week thanks for contributing to the conversation though.  id also like to add that finding this distasteful or racist doesn't make one a social justice warrior. if he was an artist.. I could care less. but he's a state representative .

this is wrong but he does have good public policy. that seem to favor the working class. hes anti-death penalty (big one) pro-women reproductive rights, pro-free college, and free healthcare. so I think he can bounce back from something like this that happened in the 80's it was still wrong and its good that he acknowledged it... the best he could do is move on from his mistake. and continue pushing for policy that benefits the people most no matter what their skin color.
