Morphine Prince 109,650
"We need a moral and spiritual awakening in the country," Williamson, who launched her campaign Monday in Los Angeles, said on CNN's "New Day." "Nothing short of that is adequate to fundamentally change the patterns of our political dysfunction." Williamson is a best-selling author and spiritual counselor to Oprah Winfrey. She said in the interview Thursday that her career has prepared her to tackle the country's "deeper levels of moral dysfunction." Williamson's platform includes a Green New Deal, universal background checks for gun owners and free college or technical school, according to her campaign website. In the CNN interview, she also called for reparations for slavery, with $10 billion per year to be distributed over a decade. "I believe $100 billion given to a council to apply this money to economic projects and educational projects of renewal for that population is a debt to be paid," she said. That J 12,166
I agree with her on most things...I just find it to be no wonder so many Americans are in such personal debt when the government talks about billions of dollars like it's just laying around. Its not. The country itself is in debt. So, I would personally like to see some headway on that to catch things up some and then go about the rest. We would easily get $10 billion a year if we took it from the military, which wastes billions every year on contracts with private companies and currently has a higher budget than every other government program combined. Oh there are quite a few ways to go about getting it, we just need to do it! It wont be done under this current administration it seems! LaLuna 12,732
No way! I love Marianne Williamson! Her books are deeply moving and eye-opening. She has exactly the kind of positive, loving energy America and the world desperately need. I'm here for it!
Emvee 8,825
We can pay for these things. The US prints it’s own goddamn money. But to anyone who’s still obsessed with balancing the budget- the only options are to raise taxes on the rich and decrease defense spending (which is greater now, during peacetime, than during the Iraq War.) This isn’t rocket science. People just need to wake up.

This isn’t rocket science. People just need to wake up. Ya cant just print more money to have more money. If that was the case, nobody would have issues. Lol The printed money has to be backed by actual funds. It's not a neverending printing machine. It has to do with the economy and other issues. Agreed about the rest tho! I feel like she is the kind of person who will be able to run and actually win once time passes and the older generation falls away. That sounds bad but what I mean is as long as the old school has its voice, only so much progress seems to stick. That's the ONE thing I wish I was younger for....to see those days and watch THAT change. But still, it will come. I got to see gay rights go from nothing to something so that was rad enough. Haha But many here will see those new days in their lifetime. As bad as things seem and may be, it's a fascinating time to be alive! Dancin 1,120
What does she mean by reparations for slavery? They will spend $10b per year on the black community? Or just in general? I'm confused hmmm

Or just in general? I'm confused I agree, I think thats rather patronizing and complicated and also further "others" people who are black, how would they give all of us reparations? DNA testing to see if we are descendants of slaves.... yeah ill pass on that.. how about reparations in a broader sense with functioning public infrastructure and social service for everyone not just "blacks"?free healthcare for all, living wages, more focus on improving and desegregating k-12 education based on class, free state/community college. thats all I can think of at the moment! but reparations don't solve any class issues they just shift class and wealth from one group to another without even reaching everyone in said group. id rather just have everyone be content and have the same social starter pack to be able to truly do what they want in life or not be a billionaire to have the basics and time to be happy and engage in a social life or community.
