This is simply untrue. Filming cameras are always light years ahead mainstream resolution. 8K cameras, while really expensive, already exist. A 16k camera just debuted last year, and yet 8k TVs aren’t even mainstream yet, and 4K TVs are just becoming the new standard. 

Theyre just too lazy to re-edit it in 1080p.

Why does everyone think HD was invented in 2010? Movie theatres weren't projecting 480 resolution movies .

 

Bad Romance was filmed in HD 1000% but was probably rendered lower for the cgi effects and they can't be bothered to update it.

I hope they didn't do that, seems like such a bad practice especially since Love Game is 1080 and has vfx (the train sequence)

Bad Romance was shot on film so it was likely scanned larger than 1080, like how Born This Way was shot at 5K but only released 1080

yeah this looks like a slightly lower res version of the Master Upscale so there is a version clearer than this because it doesn't have the twitter compression
