:lmao: when will people learn, honestly?!

NEVER do tattoo in foreign language just to be cool unless you learn the language yourself or at least have a tattoo artist who are native speakers to write it for you :lmao:  :lmao:  :lmao:

Getting a tattoo in a foreign language you’re not familiar with always seems like a recipe for disaster. I don’t know why people do it :saladga:

The thought of hardcore fans rushing off to get that tattooed without realising  is hilarious.

Well in Chinese those words mean "seven circles" , maybe she can ignore what it means in  Japanese if she looks it that way:huntyga:

It's not.... mistranslated per say. That leads one to assume she went in thinking she knew the spelling of the phrase but was wrong about which symbols go in it. Like someone was like "These are the symbols for 7 rings!" and it actually meant "Fresh Tilapia" - This seems to be the assumption 90% of posters in this thread are operating on.

Her twitter feed seems to claim that she did leave out some of the kanji because it hurt too bad to have them all, and the tattoo artist guaranteed her that it would fade eventually anyway, so she settled for it.

To be fair to her critics, she probably shouldn't use another language for a tattoo but not have the actual meaning on it, like if she thought she could just remove the middle three symbols and still maintain the meaning, that would be a bastardization/appropriation to some...In fact many don't believe in getting tattoos from another language or culture's vocabulary at all if you aren't a part of it; there's a good case to be made there.

But I don't think she's that naive, she has been to Japan many times and expressed some knowledge of its culture/language several times in her past

On the bright side those were Chinese characters and the 2 characters if translated directly it would mean “Seven Rounds/Wheels/Gears/Rounds”.

So it kinda half make sense coz rings are in circular shape. It can pass if she insist It’s a Metonym.

The Ring she intended to say is 戒指 not 輪 in Chinese tho.
