Did you even read the whole thing? He literally states that he looks white and is why he's offered roles. He's saying that roles are hard to come by for people who AREN'T white-passing like himself.

The point is, though, that he’s trying to jump on the “celebrate diversity” train and saying it’s such a great thing roles like this are opening up for actors like him but missing the point that he’s getting these roles because he’s viewed as white. He’s aware of this “advantage,” yes, but also seems complacent in basking in this privilege rather than trying to change things for his fellow ethnic minorities that are viewed as such. He says his favorite thing about himself is that he can pass as white—if that doesn’t ring ignorant to you than I don’t know what does.

Hollywood is more about LOOKS than actual ethnicity. 

And if ya LOOK white, you don't have as hard of a time of getting a role as someone who doesn't LOOK white.

It all starts with the script/novel. If a bestselling ethnic novel got made into a film, he would probably look too white to be cast for it.  If he can't find roles, he can get a different job. People change jobs all the time. Hollywood doesn't have to make all the movies in the world. Foreign films do exist.
