doppelganger 3,933
I really don’t think INLA is at all similar to IWALY, which is a country ballad written by Dolly Parton. But the affectations and singing is certainly styled after Whitney’s version of the song. The song itself? Not really. Lyrically it’s a 90s power ballad trope. derpmonster 22,412
There's no key change in INLA though. I like the chorus of IWALY more but INLA otherwise. This song shows Whitney's vocal skills but has a little bit too many frills I think. Glad Gaga didn't do that for INLA. It was in a way too emotional moment and not meant to showcase her voice. Gaga's voice even sounds like Mariah's Wtf. It's like Whitney's too, tender and airy in the head voice parts but it's got more weight and texture like Mariah's. Edit: Just saw that Mariah has a song called I Want to Know What Love Is Check out iTunes data & graphs at CHARTPOP.live

My guess is that they wanted the same impact. Insteas “Shallow” became the hit. Shallow has that classic Gaga chorus and post chorus, it is much more original than INLA. I sincerely don't like when Gaga gets too "inspired" by a single song cause the result always resembles too much the original song. I can see Shallow has a similar structure to Don't Stop Believing by Journey, but it has a completely different melody.
