I mean it depends where you live i think. I hear shallow all the time here on the radio in Canada. Once twice in one day once in a cab the other in a store. But i wouldn't say it is overplayed!

When I saw overplayed I was baffled. I’ve only heard it twice on the radio ever. :messga:

Spoiler

Also hello  :gayhat:

I feel like people are still so focused on ASIB losing major awards despite it losing right along with Black Panther, Mary Poppins, Beale Street etc. (also lbr, The Favorite is also probably going to turn up with few, if any awards on Oscar night because AMPAs are still sexist). I think this is a symptom of people being fine with seeing it underperform a bit because it has two big stars, and has made a lot of money. This extends to Hollywood too - I just get the sense that most are ok with it, but none actually feel the need to rally around it because it's hard to see this movie as an underdog. No big names are throwing screenings for it like they do for Roma or The Favorite (& Roma already has big Netflix money to campaign with). I think the only big names who have actually went out of their way to praise it (as a whole, not individual performances) is Denis Villenueve and Jonah Hill.

I don't get why ASIB is still predicted to win when most people are saying it has lost most momentum at this point..

Shallow a "overhyped" song, but they will still give All the Stars a nom for Best Original Song :triggered:

I don't think shallow is overhyped imo, I think it's just appropriately hyped, it may seem overhyped to some only because its competition isn't really that strong :toofunny:

All the Stars is a bop but it's overrated tbh, the lyrics don't even make sense :air:

Said one persons (white? male? middle aged?) opinion ugh

They're the kind of men who will be voting for ASIB to win. Your point is void.

I do get it. It's a remake of a remake of a remake and it's your typical American musical about love. There wouldn't really be a "surprise" or a "wow, the Academy is crediting a movie that is really important, culturally" moment. Compared to something like Moonlight it would be a forgettable win, for sure.

Actually my point was that this article is one person’s opinion. The ‘middle aged white male’ aspect was a side comment (hence the brackets). Thanks for trying to pick that apart. Please don’t quote me unless you actually have something meaningful to respond with and is in fact correct.

I think what they meant was: we might pass this off as just one person's opinion or we can see it as a possible insight into what the voters might be thinking

That's pure speculation. So an assumption is enough to warrant my point as "void"? My point still stands - it's an opinion piece written by one person. It's one person's opinion.
