"If you look at a show from 2005 or 2006 and put it side by side with a show from 2018 or 2019, they're going to have a few differences," Sulkin said. "Some of the things we felt comfortable saying and joking about back then, we now understand is not acceptable."

Appel noted that the culture has changed since the Seth MacFarlane-created series debuted in 1999.

He said that far from "us reacting and thinking, 'They won't let us (say certain things)' " the show has changed as well.

"The climate is different, the culture is different and our views are different," Appel said. "They've been shaped by the reality around us, so I think the show has to shift and evolve in a lot of different ways."

I think Gay jokes are fine, Tiring and played out to the moon and back but fine nonetheless...

Being Offensive is what makes Shows like Family guy, American Dad and South park, I hope they don't go too far with the censoring.

Eh, gay is a very 2009 insult, it can be offensive but it also has to be funny and original

Interesting. I don't mind gay jokes as long as they're witty. That being said it's very hard to land such jokes. Honestly, gay jokes are kind of tiring though. They aren't as funny as they used to be. Meaning that it's 2019 and LGBTQ are being more accepted. Times ARE changing. Whether they were innuendos or explicit. eh.. I also wonder if this is to prevent any future backlash and they're just being "PC" as some would call it or if they're making a conscious effort to just have smarter writing. I'm sure the article says something, but I'm tired.

And I do have to say that I'm sure there will be a ton of "SJW" name calling and such. But the discussion really needs to focus back on the issue of Trump supporters and white straight men always complaining when they get joked about. They don't like it. Many don't even like Gillette for calling out assault. So if all people can be joked about, cool. But we all know that that's just a mess for the hypocritical.

Exactly, as long as the Joke is done right I don't think there's a problem. I don't think being Gay should ever be used as an Insult, Growing up seeing that on TV and from people around me was very uncomfortable and disheartening.

Some gay jokes in comedy are demeaning towards gay people, and you did see a lot of that in the 00s cuz it was such a hot button issue.

And some gay jokes are not intelligent and thought out. They're just dull.

I'm not so much offended by gay jokes on tv, but what it does is create a culture that makes it acceptable for straight people watching to continue their homophobic behavior and that's what i find wrong with it.

I think it's a step forward to phase it out. There are so many other things in life to joke about. Like Lady Gaga's chickens

Some gay jokes can still be very funny. But I agree that society has changed a lot and stereotypes are not only offensive but also unfunny.

Family Guy gay jokes were never offensive. Sure, there are stereotypes, which is natural in comedy shows, but overall they are a very open-minded and supportive TV show. The episode where Peter becomes gay is iconic, it was very flashy but it was done in a non-offensive tone.

The end of comedy. Find this show and its references hilarious. I'm gay and it never offended me once! Literally this generation we're living through right now is making me wanna live on a different planet 😂😂

The jokes aren't even funny so idc. Relying on gay stereotypes from the 60s doesn't even make straight men laugh anymore. Original jokes or no jokes imo

Jokes that are not meant in a bad way shouldn't be banned, we live in a too much political correct society imo

No one can say anything without having instant backlash (again, I don't support harmful jokes, and this show doesn't have them)

Exactly, Family Guy's jokes are in excellent taste, unlike Louis CK's leaked set for example. They construct humor around the stereotype and expectations, instead of just insulting the group

I'm not a huge follower of the show by any means but I highly doubt that a lack of gay jokes will be in any way a huge loss. Kudos to them for recognizing that some things may not be acceptable or appropriate anymore. I didn't personally find the gay jokes as offensive as some jokes made about trans people on the show, and even those were few and far between
