Petie Estie 5,736
tweeting tons of BS this morning now that there's (even more) credible evidence he obstructed justice by personally directing his attorney to lie to congress. Didymus 34,380
Here is the article of the WE if anyone's interested. I mean, the actual issue of non-Mexican illegal immigration is real and interesting but obviously he's gonna pick out that sentence Anyway, as much as I don't like Trump, I do think the whole "omg a wall??!" issue is incredibly overrated. There's already a wall-like structure that even Obama helped to fortify, it's no big deal (that's not me saying Trump's other bs is fine, obviously). But yeah, agreed with @SEANGT, this is pure damage control.

That's rubbish and an easy way to talk yourself out of the very real problem of illegal immigration.

I'm not defending him in any way, and that's of course what he's doing. It was just a side note about people other than Trump. Imo people like Trump get carte blanche because other politicians are too scared of talking about these very real problems, making it look like Trump's the only one who "dares" to "tell the truth", that's basically the whole foundation of far right movements and figures. The large majority of politicians are for border security. Both sides agree that we need money for realistic long-term solutions. Discussions, budgets and funding are constant. Politicians don’t avoid talking about immigration. A wall is a waste of money in most areas of the country. In fact, local state governments don’t want a wall in the areas Trump is trying to throw them up.

A wall is a waste of money in most areas of the country. In fact, local state governments don’t want a wall in the areas Trump is trying to throw them up. You're definitely right. I don't live in the US but I picked up the same thing from my own readings, most recently this particularly relevant article from Politifact. I guess I'm talking more about the public visibility of that pro-border security stance. Hillary, for instance, is widely known for supporting a border wall and yet it seemed she was so actively trying to distance herself (and thus the Democratic Party) from Trump's proposal that we got that infamous "What is the difference between your idea and Donald Trump’s idea on building a wall with Mexico?" question where she really struggled to explain her position, and that awkward "maybe some of it was a wall" answer has been ammo for Republicans ever since. I'm not saying that Hillary has been inconsistent in her political views (she hasn't been imo) but there does seem to be a lack of emphasis on these issues that Republicans are picking up and using to add fuel to the anti-left fire. If it was clearly and publicly established that someone like Hillary was also in favor of physical border control then that wouldn't be a possibility, and Trump's whole fear mongering tactic maybe wouldn't be so effective. I don't know, it's not that important, just a thought about a general issue I've picked up on, especially in European politics. I think left wingers often fall in the trap of using a moralistic stance against right wing arguments, which gives off the by now cliché impression that they don't have relevant practical ideas and just wanna be Gutmenschen. No. What Trump tweeted is literal definition of it and it’s unacceptable. This is what happens when politicians spread anti-Muslim hate: You and your family would be affected by it too, in todays climate in the West, no matter whether you left the religion or not. Try to have some compassion. And about the topic, first of all, there were no “praying rugs” and even if they were, there’s nothing wrong with praying. Implying that every single practicing Muslim is potential terrorist is islamophobic bigotry. Saying that all Muslims come from ME is ignorant, there are many in Latin America. Trump is afraid of praying rugs. Trump is giving his racist fan base what they want. What if he’d said there are bunch of kippahs or crucifixes, bibles left behind, there would be an uproar. Demonizing people because of their religion or ethnic background is WRONG. Meanwhile on Fox: FreePalestine

A country should be able to secure their border against letting just anyone in.... Immigration should be legal! That being said I don't support the wall because I don't think the monetary cost + upkeep is worth whatever number of illegal immigrants it might keep out so that's why I think it's a stupid idea
